SUWANEE, Ga. - DePauw and Rhodes remained undefeated in conference play as the Tigers (8-1) defeated Centre 2-0 while the Lynx (7-1) defeated the Colonels 2-1. DePauw and Rhodes will square off against each other Friday, October 1st in Greencastle, Indiana.

Centre split a pair of SCAC matches with a win
over Sewanee (2-1) and a loss to DePauw (2-0). The win over Sewanee
saw goals from both Barbara Parks and Chelsea Klein off assists
from Jessica McLean and Courtney Kuiper. The Colonels will return
to action this weekend playing host to in state rival
Transylvania.
DePauw, 8-1, split its two contests last week
after a 5-4 loss at Division II's 8th-ranked Bellarmine and a 2-0
SCAC win over visiting Centre. The Tigers scored four times in the
opening 22 minutes of the Bellarmine game, but the Knights scored
four unanswered goals to take a 5-4 win over the Tigers. Margaret
Ellis scored three goals in the loss with Kimberly Trainor adding
the other.Bellarmine outshot DePauw 17-15 and held a 7-6 edge in
penalty corners. Liz Attewell recorded eight saves in goal for the
Tigers, while Bellarmine's Samantha Biedron had four for the
Knights. DePauw picked up its sixth shutout of the season in a 2-0
victory over visiting Centre Bridgette Shamleffer put DePauw on the
board with a goal at 22:06 and Ellis gave the Tigers a 2-0
advantage with a score at the 32:54 mark for her team-best 12th
goal of the season. The Tigers outshot the Colonels, 13-4, and held
an 8-7 advantage in corners. Liz Attewell recorded four saves in
goal for the Tigers.
Hendrix reached the scoreboard first, however, Rhodes
College would go on to score four unanswered goals to earn a
come-from-behind victory in the second Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference weekend of the season on Saturday afternoon at Warrior
Field. Hendrix falls to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in SCAC
play. Hendrix jumped out to a 1-0 lead on sophomore
midfielder Maggie DesPain’s shot in the 12th minute.
DeSpain took a pass from senior midfielder Abby Coleman from five
yards off the left side of the goal on a penalty corner.
Rhodes lit up its side of the scoreboard in the 27th minute when
junior defender Sara Sanders sent a rebound into the net, her first
goal of the year, on a penalty corner. The Lynx earned a
penalty stroke two minutes later and senior midfielder Charlie
Wagner chipped it to the backboard for the go-ahead score.
Rhodes junior forward Taylor Mills slipped the ball around the
keeper in the 41st minute off a breakaway from senior forward
Lindsey Gurkovich and junior forward Chelsea McLeod tapped in an
insurance goal off another assist from Gurkovich in the 50th minute
to reach the final mark. Warriors’ senior goalkeeper
Alyssa Havens denied a season-high 13 shots in the contest.
Hendrix was outshot 23-6, including a 17-3 shots on-goal
advantage.
Rhodes came up with their third two win weekend
in a row with victories over Hendrix and Lindenwood. The Lynx
beat Hendrix 4-1 on Saturday to improve their SCAC mark to 2-0 and
celebrated their first home game with a 4-0 shutout of Lindenwood
on Sunday. The Lynx defense was impressive, holding opponents
to just one goal and nine shots on the weekend. All three
goalkeepers contributed and senior keeper Sarah Dockery had an
impressive save to thwart a 1 on 1 in Sunday’s match.
Chelsea McLeod led the Lynx offensive efforts with 3 goals on the
weekend. McLeod’s efforts were supported by a strong
midfield presence by Charlie Wagner and Sarah Kennedy, both of whom
had great weekends and each contributed a goal. Rhodes, now
7-1 (2-0 SCAC), will face DePauw (8-1, 2-0 SCAC) on Friday at 4:30
in Greencastle, IN followed by a noon match on Sunday at Sewanee
(2-5, 0-2 SCAC).
Sewanee split its’ two matches this weekend,
dropping a 2-1 decision to Centre College on Friday and toppling
Transylvania University, 8-0 on Saturday. Molly Kennedy scored the
Tigers lone goal against Centre when she put one past goalkeeper
Patty Cowley with 16 minutes to go in the first half. Centre led
the Tigers in shots, 16-12, while the Tigers led in corners, 6-5.
Sewanee keeper Anna Morrow recorded 6 saves in the contest. On
Saturday, the Tigers played host to Transylvania and tallied 42
shots on the afternoon, while holding Transy to just four. Elise
Landau, Molly Kennedy, and Anne Booke all scored two goals for the
Tigers, while Karen Dawson and Caroline Carlin added one apiece.
The Tigers notched four goals in each period. Anna Morrow recorded
two saves for the Tigers. Sewanee also held an advantage in
corners, 12-3. Sewanee will resume SCAC play next weekend when they
play host to Hendrix and Rhodes on Friday and Sunday.
