Ten SCAC Student-Athletes Named to All-West Region Men's Soccer Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Ten Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer student-athletes earned recognition with the release of the United Soccer Coaches All-West Region team on Tuesday.

Trinity led all squads with four players earning All-Region honors, followed by Colorado College with three student-athletes and Austin College, Southwestern and Texas Lutheran each having one representative earn accolades.

Trinity teammates Brady Johnston, Quentin Van De Lee and Austin Michaelis, along with Texas Lutheran’s Luis Green were named to the region’s first team.

Johnston was selected as the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Year and earned All-SCAC First Team accolades after anchoring a defense that yielded just 0.77 goals per game and produced 10 shutouts. The junior, who played a key role in sparking the Tigers to their seventh consecutive SCAC Championship, also chipped in offensively with nine goals and four assists on the year.

Van Der Lee earned first team honors after appearing on the All-SCAC First Team after scoring four goals and adding six assists for 14 total points in his sophomore campaign. Van Der Lee along with Johnston also earned SCAC all-Tournament recognition.

Michaelis became an All-Region First Team honoree for the third consecutive season after leading the Tigers with 12 goals and 28 points during the season, including four game-winning goals. The senior was also named to the All-SCAC First Team and finished his career with 43 goals and 106 points - marks good enough for seventh and eighth all-time in the Trinity record books.

Green’s prestige comes on the heels of an outstanding freshman campaign where he earned SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Year and Newcomer of the Year honors after leading the conference in goals scored (18), points (38), shots (87) and game-winning goals (6). His OPOTY recognition marked the first time in conference history a freshman has taken home the award.

The league’s lone nod on the region’s second team was Austin College’s Phillip Le. Le, a senior midfielder, was a first team All-SCAC selection after leading the ‘Roos with seven goals and six assists for 20 total points. This year marks the third consecutive season Le has been named an All-Region performer, earning third team honors in 2016 and second team honors a season ago.

Lastly, Colorado College teammates Keller Mochel, Henry Schuler and Robert Malone along with Southwestern’s Brendan Dauth and Trinity’s Andrea Codispoti each recieved third-team honors.

Mochel, a junior goalkeeper, and Schuler, a senior defender, helped anchor a CC Tiger defense that allowed just 18 goals on the season and posted a 0.90 goals against average. Malone, a senior forward, led CC with seven goals and 16 points on the year.

Dauth, who earned second team All-SCAC honors, led Southwestern to its first-ever NCAA Tournament berth in 2018. The sophomore becomes the ninth different athlete in program history to secure All-Region honors and the first since 2013 when Matthew Nickell, Steven Resnik and Daniel Poole earned the cachet.

Codispoti represented Trinity on the All-SCAC Second Team, amassing eight goals and five assists to lift the Tigers to their No. 5 ranking in all of Division III with 76 total goals this season.
