IRVING, Texas - Trinity University made history
on Saturday, winning the program's first-ever Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference men's cross country title with
a narrow victory over three-time defending champion Colorado College on the
challenging campus course at the University of

Trinity finished with 26 points, followed by Colorado College with
37 points.
The Trinity men had six runners finish in the top nine places
and eight runners earned All-SCAC honors (2012 All-SCAC team
pictured below - click the image for a larger view) as
first-year head coach Derick Lawrence led his Tigers to the
historic win.
Seniors Pancho Escobedo and Rob Edmonds led the way for Trinity,
posting second and third place finishes with times of 26:59.15 and
27:17.04, respectively.
Colorado College, who had its streak of three consecutive
team titles snapped, did find solace in the performance
of sophomore Nick Hall, who earned 2012 SCAC
Runner-of-the-Year and medalist honors with a
first-place finish in a time of 26:48.23.
Hall was the league's Freshman-of-the-Year in 2011.
Senior Sal Perdomo (sixth place - 27:25.56), senior Mark
Greene (seventh place - 27:43.87), junior Gerado Hernandez
(eight place - 27:54.79), freshman Taylor Piske (ninth place -
27:57.75), freshman Chris Soto (13th place - 28:20.54) and
sophomore Connor Amoruso (14th place - 28:23.28) rounded
out Trinity's all-SCAC performers.

Escobedo and Perdomo each earned all-SCAC honors in 2011 and
Edmonds was an all-SCAC honoree in 2010.
Trinity's Piske, by virtue of his top finish among all
first-year runners, was named the 2012 SCAC
Freshman-of-the-Year.
In addition to Hall's performance, Colorado College senior Max
Marinelli finished fourth with a time of 27:19.96,
and sophomore Graham Frank earned all-SCAC honors for the
second consecutive year with a fifth-place finish in a time of
27:22.54. CC sophomore Will Richmond also earned all-SCAC honors
with a 12th-place finish in a time of 28:18.03.
Southwestern
University senior Sam Martinez finished in 10th place to earn
All-SCAC honors for the second time in three years and lead the
Pirates to a third-place team finish. The Pirates finished with 108
team points to squeak by the host school, the University of Dallas,
who finished in fourth place with 118 points.
Ryan McAnany of the University of Dallas was the top Crusader
finisher and earned All-SCAC honors with his 11th-place finish in a
time of 28:12.79.
Centenary College,
competiting in its first-ever SCAC championship, placed fifth in
the team standings with 160 points.
After the race, SCAC Assistant Commissioner Jeff
DeBaldo caught up with the top three men's finishers as well
as Trinity head coach Derick Lawrence.
