SCAC Men's Cross Country Recap - Week Seven

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - All seven of the league's men's cross country teams competed this past Friday and Saturday, with each team making its final preparations for the 2017 SCAC Men's Cross Country Championships. This year's conference meet will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28 on the campus of Texas Lutheran University.

Schreiner and Southwestern competed at the Southwestern University Pirate Invitational. The home-standing Pirates finished second and Schreiner was fourth in the 3.1 mile event. Three-time SCAC Runner of the Week Joshua Im continued his terrific year with a second-place individual finish with a time of 17:13.6. Schreiner's Joseph Harben was tops for the Mountaineers with an 18th-place finish in a time of 19:30.6. 

Texas Lutheran ran at the University of South Florida Bulls Invatational. The 8K meet was not scored for team results but Blake Westbrook paced the Bulldogs in the largely D1 field with a 39th-place finish in a time of 28:40.3.

On Saturday, Austin College and Dallas competed at the University of Dallas Invitational were the host finished third and the 'Roos placed seventh. Joseph Kilmer led the Crusaders with a sixth-place individual finish in a time of 17:10.38 over the 5K course. For Austin College, Johnny Biffar ran a 17:46.14 5K, good for 10th place overall.

Colorado College finished out its regular season with a sixth-place finish at the Lewis & Clark Invitational. Sophomores Max Blackburn and Tony Calderon paced the CC Tigers. Blackburn finished the 8K race in 18th place, completing the course in a time of 25 minutes, 59.5 seconds. Calderon, meanwhile, was 23rd with a time of 26:12.3.

Trinity University ran at the Principia College Cowbell Classic - also known as the Pre-Nationals as it was contested at the site of this year's national championship meet. The Tiger men scored 674 points in the 38-team 8K field. Six top 10 teams competed in the race, including the winner and top-ranked North Central (IL) College. Austin Brown was Trinity's top men's finisher, placing 141st in a pack of more than 350 runners. Blake Elliott finished 144th, just two seconds behind his teammate.

Principia College hosted the event, and will also be the host institution for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships November 18.

The 2017 SCAC Cross Country Championships will be held Saturday, October 28 on the campus of Texas Lutheran University. The men's 8K race will begin at 9 a.m. while the women's 6K will follow at 10 a.m. CT.
