Trinity Repeats as SCAC Women’s Cross Country Champions With Perfect Score

SHREVEPORT, La. – Trinity University, ranked 13th in the nation, won its second Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's cross country championship with a perfect score of 15, as Tiger runners finished in first through fifth place for the second consecutive year,  at the Clyde Fant course on Saturday. Team ResultsIndividual Results | Official Website | Facebook Photo Album

Trinity seniors Maddie Murphy (2011 SCAC Champion - 22:02.4) and Vanessa Moreno (2012 SCAC Champion - 22:26.3) took the top two spots while Tiger teammates Rosemary Steup (third - 22:41.5), Michelle Oberndorf (fourth - 22:47.1), and Jackie Newell (fifth - 23:06.1) completed the top five finishers on the 6K course.

This championship marked the second ever perfect score in SCAC women's cross country championship history.

Trinity recorded a perfect score of 15 points while Colorado College finished in second with 56 points followed by Texas Lutheran University (third - 99 points), University of Dallas (fourth - 113 points), Southwestern University (fifth - 117 points), Centenary College (sixth - 184 points), Austin College (seventh - 192 points), and Schreiner University (eighth – 237 points).

With her first place finish, Murphy won 2013 SCAC Runner-of-the-Year honors. Colorado College's Leah Wessler (23:39.3) was named the SCAC Freshman-of-the-Year with her 11th place individual finish.

Trinity placed eight runners on the All-SCAC team which included Nicola Hill (seventh - 23:14.8), Autumn Kervella (ninth - 23:28.5), and Mariana Sigala (14th - 23:51.0) finished in the top 14. The Tigers had nine top-20 finishes.

Finishing out the All-SCAC team was Colorado College's Rebecca Lavietes (sixth – 23:10.1), Southwestern University's Lilly Duarte (eighth - 23:23.4), Centenary College's Rachel Olson (tenth - 23:36.7), Colorado College's Allison Crimmins (12th - 23:48.1) and teammate Anne Taylor (13th - 23:48.6).

The Colorado College Tigers placed four runners on the All-SCAC team while Southwestern and Centenary added one each All-Conference performer. Colorado College had five top 20 finishes.

Southwestern University had two runners, Duarte and Kara Koinis (17th - 24:16.1), finish in the Top 20. Duarte was an All-SCAC performer in 2012.

University of Dallas had one Top 20 finisher, junior Clare Myers (16th – 24.01.1).

Texas Lutheran University, competing in its first-ever SCAC championship, had two Top 20 finishers, Sarah Fritzsche (18th – 24:16.4) and Melissa Longoria (20th – 24:25.4)

Championship host Centenary College had two Top 40 finishes, Rachel Olson and Christy Wolterman (28.27.7).

Austin College was led by junior Sally Humphries. She clocked a time of 27:29.8 on the demanding 6K course.

Schreiner University, also competing in its first-ever SCAC championship, was led by freshman Alexix Nyquist with a 28:31.1 finishing time.
