Mary Cunningham, Sewanee-Univ. of the South, Women's Swimming

MARY CUNNINGHAM OF SEWANEE-THE UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH, a sophomore on the women's swimming team who hails from Cincinnati, Ohio, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending December 12, 2010.

Cunningham serves as a women's swimming representative to the NCAA student athletics advisory committee and is Sewanee's female athlete representative to the SCAC. She serves as an assistant proctor for Sewanee residential life and is co-chair of the Sophomore Year Experience Council, which consists of planning and executing events specifically for the sophomore class to promote a sense of community within the class and help combat common issues associated with the sophomore year of college. 

Cunningham also serves as a member of the Multicultural Outreach Board and as the assistant rush chair of her sorority. She volunteers with local senior citizens, elementary school children, and the local animal shelter and this past summer, she worked at a nonprofit called MEAC in Cincinnati, coordinating local food banks and food pantries.
