SPENCER LEVI OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a freshman forward from St. Louis, Mo., has been named the SCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, January 8.
Levi notched a personal-best 33 points, which included 23 in a huge second half to help lift the Crusaders 71-68 at Schreiner University. He also pulled down 10 rebounds for his seventh double-double on the season and added four blocks.
Dallas trailed by seven at the half, but outscored its opponent 47-37 to end a three-game slide. Levi also tied a season-best 12 field goals for the third time on the campaign.
In the Crusaders loss to Trinity, Levi scored 17 points, while pulling down nine rebounds and grabbing a pair of steals. He has now had at least one block in 11 straight games this season, dating back to November 21.
After entering the weekend ranked 3rd nationally in field goal percentage, the rookie remains likely to stay near the top of the column by continuing to shoot over 75 percent.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman forward Michael Holland of Austin College had a great week for the 'Roos, averaging 15.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and 1.5 steals while shooting 56.5% from the field and 50% from three in a pair of losses to Southwestern and Texas Lutheran. Senior forward Blake Kelley of Schreiner University helped the Mountaineers to a 1-1 week, averaging a double-double of 20.5 points and 11 rebounds per game, while adding 2.5 blocks and 1.5 assists per game. Sophomore guard Ryan Wheeler of Southwestern University averaged 16 points and a pair of steals to lead the Pirates to a 2-1 week, including a 2-0 record to start SCAC play. Junior guard Nathan Josephs of Texas Lutheran University led the Bulldogs to a 1-1 record in SCAC play last week by averaging 18.5 points and 6.0 assists per game. Sophomore forward Danny Rivara of Trinity University averaged 9.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per game as the Tigers opened SCAC play with a split at home against Dallas and Colorado College.
