LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- The 2021 SCAC women's golf season got underway this week as five of the league's seven teams were in action - all at the Trinity University Alamo City Classic.
The host Tigers posted a second-place finish at The Quarry Golf Club on Tuesday, improving by three strokes over yesterday's score and finishing with a combined total of 633 over the two-day event. Trinity had all five players finish in the top seven individually. A pair of freshmen paced the Tigers - Caterina Mora Adrover and Kiona Hsiu - who both shot 158 over 36 holes to finish in a tie for third place. Mora Adrover shot 79 on both days, while Hsiu tied the team low for the tournament with a score of 77 on Tuesday. The Tiger teammates had three birdies each in the tournament, as well as shooting par on 16 of the 36 holes.
St. Thomas finished in third place, 44 shots behind Trinity, with a two-day total of 677 (+109). Freshman Trinity Le shot a second-round 78 - the fifth lowest score of the day - and ended the tournament with a score of 162, placing her 11th overall.
The Schreiner women finished in fifth place with rounds of 392 and 386 for a two-day total of 778 (+210). Senior Katelyn Smith paced the Mountaineers with a 174 (92-82) to finish in a tie for 17th.
University of Dallas and Texas Lutheran also competed at the Alamo City Classic, but did neither had enough entrants to score. Freshman Clair Kirby was tops for UD with a two-day total of 187 (95-92) and TLU freshman Audra Garza was nine shots back at 196 (102-94).
Next week, the remaining three SCAC women's teams tee it up for the first time in 2021 with Centenary and Southwestern at the Concordia (Texas) Linda Lowery Invitational and St. Thomas participating at the University of Houston-Victoria Claud Jacobs Invitational.
