LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- The 2021 SCAC women's golf season continued this week with all seven of the league's teams on the course.
Six teams competed at the Schreiner University Spring Shootout where Trinity posted the best finish among conference schools, finishing in second place and just two shots behind University of Texas-Dallas. The Tigers shot a 326 as a team on Tuesday, which was the best score of the day, but still came up behind the tournament winner Comets. First-year Kiona Hsiu finished in a tie for fifth place individually to lead the team, shooting 84-76 (160) overall, and coming up one stroke short of a tie for third. She carded four birdies in today's round and led the team with six total birdies in the tournament. Fellow freshman Caterina Mora Adrover also posted a top 10 finish, tying for seventh overall, shooting 79-84 (163) over the two-day event, and finishing with a total of four birdies.
Southwestern made a big run in the second round, leapfrogging two teams to finish fourth with a score of 670. The Pirates improved on its first-round performance by 14 strokes, scoring a 328 on the second day of action. Junior Madison Goldberg led the Pirates with a fifth-place finish, scoring rounds of 79 and 81 to finish tied at 160 with Trinity's Kiona Hsia at 16 over par.
St. Thomas finished three strokes behind Southwestern and placed fifth in the team standings as the Celts' first-year Trinity Le led the way securing fourth place in the 55-player field - tops among all SCAC student-athletes - shooting a 159 for the tournament.
Rounding out SCAC teams in the field, Schreiner finished in ninth as the host school and Dallas and Texas Lutheran did not send enough golfers to score.
The Centenary women were also on the course this week, participating at the LeTourneau Univeristy Pinecrest Invitational. The Ladies, playing in their first tournament of the season, shot a +274 over par 850 for a fifth-place finish.
