SEGUIN, Texas – The Rhodes College Lynx
unseated the DePauw University Tigers Saturday as the Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Cross Country
champions. Individual Results |
Teams Results
Rhodes won the Trinity University-hosted event, held at Texas
Lutheran University, with 18 points. The Lynx took home their
seventh SCAC cross country trophy, and the first since 2002.
DePauw, which had captured the title for the past seven years, was
runner-up with 63 points.
The Lynx placed five of the top six runners on the 6k course,
including first-place finisher Taylor Stephens of Southlake, Texas.
Stephens, who previously won individual honors in 2008, ran
Saturday’s race in 22:22.1. The Rhodes junior was also named
SCAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Year.
Centre College was third in the team event (95), Colorado College
placed fourth (107), and host Trinity finished fifth (109).
In sixth place was Southwestern (180), Sewanee came in seventh
(186), Hendrix was eighth (236), and Millsaps registered ninth
(268). Oglethorpe was disqualified after the race, and did not
amass team points.
Placing second among the individuals was Trinity first-year runner
Rosemary Steup of Kingwood, Texas, who clocked in at 22:27.6. Steup
also earned SCAC Women’s Cross Country Freshman of the Year
recognition.
The third through sixth places all were captured by Rhodes: senior
Anna Johnson of Birmingham, Ala. (22:45.2); senior Kelsey Dudziack
of Williamstown, Mass (22:58.5); senior Sandy Henin of Cordova,
Tenn. (23:04.1); and junior Caroline Webster of Ellsworth, Maine.
(23:15.0).
DePauw sophomore Jess Macy of Olathe, Kan., was seventh (23:15.8);
Rhodes sophomore Maddie Harrigan of Chesterfield, Mo., finished
eighth (23:22.0); DePauw junior Claire Hollis of Mount Prospect,
Ill., was ninth (23:24.5); and Centre junior Bekah Rehkamp of
Florence, Ky., placed 10th (23:33.2).
Rounding out the All-SCAC team were Colorado College junior Maggie
Harkins of Summit, N.J. (23:33.9); DePauw junior Lisa Becharas of
Northbrook, Ill. (23:34.9); DePauw freshman Siri Retrum of
Columbus, Ind. (23:35.7); and Centre junior Paige Farris of
Mayfield, Ky. (23:36.4).
