Women's XC Recap (Week 6) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Five of the eight SCAC women's cross country teams were in action this past weekend.

Centenary College
The Centenary cross country programs competed at the Watson Ford Invitational hosted by Mississippi College on Friday. The Ladies finished 20th respectively. Christy Wolterman led the Ladies with a time of 32:36.74 (120) while Kellen Bullock paced the Gents with a time of 34:25.45 (133). Catherine Shackelford posted a time of 33:39.38 (124) on the women’s side to finish behind Wolterman. Kayla Thornhill added a time of 33:41.47 (126) with Brittany Wagner posting a time of 35:42.99 (135). Heather Wilson concluded the team standings for the Ladies with a time of 45:07.05 (159). Centenary returns to the course at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Nov. 1 in San Antonio, Texas.

Colorado College
The Colorado College women's cross country team split its squad and competed at two meets on Saturday. Eleven Tigers ran at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite in Claremont, Calif., while five others were at the Metro State Invitational in Denver. The Tigers captured a ninth-place finish among 17 teams at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite. CC was led by sophomore Leah Wessler, who covered the 6k race in a personal-best time of 23 minutes and nine seconds, good for 20th place among the 194 runners. Senior Rebecca Lavietes followed in 43rd place with a season-best time of 23:47. At the Metro State meet, freshman Kelsey Maxwell led the way, finishing 92nd among 134 runners. Sophomores Jessica Wright (96th) and Liz Waterman (98th) also finished in the top 100. The Tigers wrap up the 2014 regular season on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open in Fort Hays, Kan.

University of Dallas
The University of Dallas cross country team finished third at the 2014 Warrior Invitational at Wisconsin Lutheran. Senior Clare Myers finished 11th with a time of 24:51.4 followed closely by Ruth Fritz with a time of 24:55.8 and a 13th place finish. Round out the Crusaders was Danielle Pajak (18th) with a time of 25:25.3, Meghan Falconer (19th) with a time of 25:27.0, and Colleen Slattery (27th) with a time of 25:57.8. The Crusaders return to action next weekend as they go to Marshall, Texas to compete in the East Texas Baptist Invite.

Texas Lutheran University
At the Texas Lutheran Cross Country Invite 2 Saturday morning, TLU Women's Cross Country runners took the first five collegiate spots in the women's race. Bulldogs Sarah Randall, Jasmine Medrano, Samantha Lopez, Haley Cortez, and Stephanie Ernst crossed as the top "attached" runners. Randall posted a time of 20:16, and Medrano clocked a time of 20:21. Both TLU teams return to action next Saturday in San Antonio for the University of the Incarnate Word Invitational. The meet is set for an 8 a.m. start.

Trinity University
Trinity’s women scored 242 points in the event, which consisted of 25 teams from outside of Division I competition. The Tiger men had 458 points for their finish among 27 non-Division I teams. Michelle Oberndorf ran the women’s 5k in 18:43.1, and posted a No. 135 finish among 375 competitors. She was just four seconds from her career best. Melissa Whitman completed the women’s race in 18:45.8, and Lexi Phelps ran the event in 19:02.2.  Overall, the Tiger women had nine runners finish in under 20:00, and eight of those were faster than their top time at the last meet.  Trinity had eight runners earn times that rank in the top 20 in school history. The Tigers will compete in the University of Incarnate Word Invitational on Saturday, October 11, at Live Oak, Texas.

Austin College, Schreiner, and Southwestern did not compete this weekend.
