Austin College's Buchhorn Resigns as Head Cross Country Coach

SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College men's and women's cross country coach Matt Buchhorn has stepped down from his position to pursue other professional opportunities, athletics director David Norman has announced.

"We wish Matt all the best as he moves forward in his career," said Norman. "He was a wonderful part of the athletics department staff, and provided great leadership in helping us re-launch the men's cross country team as well as continuing the growth of our women's cross country program. Under his guidance, both the men's and women's teams achieved exceptional team and individual highs last season."

The women's cross country team placed fifth, the best finish in the team's three years as a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, while the men's team also placed fifth in its first year back as a varsity NCAA program. Buchhorn also coached men's runner Chris Burke to an All-SCAC performance at the conference championship, and an Austin College record breaking run at the NCAA Regionals.

A national search for the next head men's and women's cross country coach of the Kangaroos is currently underway.
