AROUND THE SCAC
Austin College dropped four games in Conway,
Ark. last week. The Kangaroos fell twice to host Hendrix (2-0 and
8-6) and twice to Washington (Mo.) (7-1 and 4-1). Austin College is
now 1-13 on the season and will return to action on March 7 when
the Kangaroos host Ozarks for a double-header beginning at 2
p.m.
Centenary picked up its first win of the season on Sunday
in a 5-4 decision against Webster. The victory moved the Ladies to
1-9 on the season. Nicole Warren led the Maroon and White at the
dish recording a hit in all four outings over the weekend. Warren
posted a .357 batting average with five hits and scored four runs
for the Ladies. Cadie Hancock added her third homerun of the season
to regain the top spot on the team. Hancock also paces the team in
RBI with 10. Lauren Swift posted a .333 average for the weekend to
remain the top bat for the Ladies this season with a .462 clip at
the dish. The Beaumont, Texas, native leads the squad with 12 hits.
Centenary returns to action on Monday in a home doubleheader
against Evangel. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Dallas (1-7) went 1-3 (W, 7-6; L, 9-4; L, 12-0; L, 12-3)
on the week in four home games. The Crusaders hosted Southwestern
Assemblies of God University on Tuesday evening in Irving, Texas.
Head coach Amber Conner's squad prevailed 7-6 in game one, as Ciara
Stewart tallied three hits (triple) and two runs. The back-half of
the doubleheader proved unkind to Dallas, with the Lions posting a
9-4 victory. A Sunday afternoon doubleheader versus Sul Ross State
University was next on the docket. Nicole Frazier (1-6) had just
three runs of combined run support against the Lobos, and a number
of fielding miscues proved detrimental to the Crusaders in the pair
of losses. Dallas will host Evangel University-Mo. (Thursday: 5
p.m. doubleheader).
Southwestern traveled to Our Lady of the Lake University
and split with them on their field. Game 1 was a 7-1 win for
Southwestern with Southwestern earning 6 hits and drawing 10 walks.
The Pirates scored 2 in the 2nd and 4th
innings and 3 again in the 7th. The Saints put up their
only run of the game in the 3rd inning. Game 2 the
Saints from Our Lady of the Lake outhit the Pirates 12-7 and beat
Southwestern 8-4. Our Lady of the Lake scored every inning except
for the 2nd and 5th. Southwestern put runs on
the board in the first inning and put pressure on again in the
6th but it wasn’t enough to pull out the win. On
Saturday Our Lady of the Lake came to Georgetown and the teams
split once again. The first game of the day, Our Lady of the Lake
dominated Southwestern scoring a total of 8 runs on the day.
Southwestern was only able to pull 3 hits together during a
complete 7 innings and remained scoreless for the game. For game 2
however, the Pirates were able to bring their sticks back and
pulled out an 8-7 win. The Saints pressured every inning putting up
4 runs in the third, pushing 3 more across during the
5th and 6th and leaving runners on during the
7th inning. It wasn’t enough to give them the win
however because Southwestern had scored all 8 of their runs in the
3rd, 4th, and 5th innings and
their defense was able to keep runs from scoring during Our Lady of
the Lake’s last at-bat.
Trinity opened up its home schedule with a doubleheader
sweep of future SCAC member Schreiner University on Wednesday
evening. The Tigers cracked three home runs to counter a pair of
round-trippers by the visitors on the day. Trinity posted 15 runs
in the wins, which snapped a four-game losing streak by the Tigers.
Trinity has now beaten Schreiner five times in its last six
meetings. Trinity will play just once again this week,
hosting Division II St. Mary’s University on Friday
afternoon. The doubleheader begins at 5 p.m.
