MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Centre College senior guard and two-time Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year Maggie Prewitt, along with Millsaps College head coach Chuck Winkelman, highlight the conferene selections to the D3hoops.com Women's All-South Region team the website announced on Monday. Prewitt was selected as the South Region Player-of-the-Year and Winkelman was named the South Region Coach-of-the-Year. Prewitt is the league's first-ever D3hoops.com Region Player-of-the-Year selection. Winkelman is just the second Region Coach-of-the-Year honoree from an SCAC institution - following Ron Sattele of Oglethorpe University who was selected South Region Coach-of-the-Year in 2008-09.

Joining Prewitt as All-Region selections, Murphy Burns of Trinity University and Shante Morton of Millsaps College were named to the All-South Region Second Team and Sharwil Bell of Rhodes College was a Third Team selection. Becky Luetjen of Colorado was a All-West Region Third Team selection.

Prewitt (pictured left) led the SCAC in assists with 191 (6.4 per game) and free throw percentage (87.1 percent) and also finished in the top 10 in the league in scoring (18.2 points per game - second), three-point field goal percentage (41.0 percent - second), steals (71 – second) and field goal percentage (44.6 percent – seventh). One of the more well-rounded offensive players in conference history and a consensus all-America selection a year ago, Prewitt ends her four years in Danville with 1,823 career points (fourth in SCAC history) and is the league's all-time leader in assists with 536. She is one of just three players ranked within the league's top 10 career list for both points and assists and with 554 career rebounds, she is the only player in league history (male or female) with 1,500+ career points, 500+ career assists and 500+ career rebounds. Prewitt is just the fifth women's player to earn back-to-back Player-of-the-Year awards and the first since Liz Bondi of DePauw University won the league's highest honor in 2005-06 and 2006-07.

Winkelman (pictured right), who picked up his 200th career collegiate coaching victory earlier this season, led the Majors to a 22-6 record and the finals of the SCAC tournament. The win total represented just the third 20+ win season in the history of the women's basketball program.

After inheriting a program that had gone 1-24 the season prior, Winkelman led the Majors to a 12-13 mark (an 11-game turnaround) in 2010-11 and was named SCAC Co-Coach of the Year in the process. This season saw another 8 1/2 game improvement from last season and Millsaps made it all the way to the SCAC championship game.

Sophomore guard Murphy Burns of Trinity University (pictured left) led the SCAC in scoring this season, averaging 19.2 points per game. She totaled 481 points this season for the Tigers, which is the sixth-highest total in school history. Twice she scored 30 or more points in a game - including a 39-point effort against Rhodes that is tied for the fourth-highest single game point total in Trinity history. With her 53 three-pointers made this season, Burns is now third in school history for a single season, and is already eighth in school history for career rankings. She broke the single season record for three-pointers attempted (171). Burns is also one of just six players to make 100 or more free throws in a season, connecting on 100 of her 125 attempts this year.

Junior center Shante Morton of Millsaps College (pictured right) was as dominant a post player as anyone in the SCAC as she led the Majors with 14.7 points per game (10th in the SCAC) and 10.4 rebounds per game (third in the SCAC). Morton, who was selected to the 2012 SCAC All-Tournament team, also averaged 1.2 steals and 0.9 blocks per game (eighth in the SCAC). When the Majors move to the Southern Athletic Association next season, Morton will enter league play as the conference's active career leader in both points (1,124) and rebounds (669). 

Senior guard Sharwil Bell of Rhodes College (pictured left), a Jostens Trophy finalist and Capital One Academic All-America® Women's Basketball First Team selection, averaged 15.1 points (seventh in the SCAC) and 6.4 rebounds (13th in the SCAC) per game. Bell shot 43.3 percent from the field and was sixth in the league with 2.2 steals per game. A transfer from Elon, Bell ends her three-year career run with the Lynx with 1,247 points and 574 rebounds.

Colorado College senior forward Becky Luetjen (pictured right) finished the season ranked among the SCAC's top 10 in six statistical categories. She was fourth in scoring, averaging 17.2 points per game, fifth in minutes played (33.2), sixth in rebounds (9.5), tied for sixth in blocked shots (1.0) and 14th in steals (1.8). Luetjen also was sixth in free-throw percentage (.798) and eighth in field-goal percentage (.444). She led the Tigers with 446 points, a career-high 248 rebounds, 46 steals and 26 blocked shots. She recorded 12 double-doubles (points-rebounds) and scored 20 or more points on nine occasions. Luetjen, who started all 102 games throughout her four seasons at Colorado College, ranks No. 3 on the program's all-time chart with 90 blocked shots. She's also No. 4 with 1,552 points, 827 rebounds and 227 assists, as well as No. 5 with 181 steals. She is the only player in school history to complete her career ranked among the top five in all five statistics.

Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools, who were contacted multiple times as the season wound down to remind them to make their players eligible. There were 680 players nominated nationwide, a new high. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region.
