CLEVELAND, Ohio - Currently in 37th place, Trinity University leads all SCAC institutions in the prestigious 2011-2012 Division III Learfield Sports Directors' Cup fall standings. Centre College is just five places back in 42nd place. Complete NACDA Release
Trinity amassed 105 points in the winter standings (244 total
points), based on NCAA postseason competition, on the strength of
its 17th place finish in men's basketball and 19th place finish in
women's swimming & diving. Centre College totaled 101 points
(228 total points) on the heels of its ninth place finish in
women's basketball and 37th place finish in women's swimming &
diving.
Washington (Mo.) University leads all of Division III with 693.50
points. Middlebury (Vt.) College is second with 676 points
and Amherst (Mass.) College follows closely in third with
654.75 points.
Other SCAC schools in the final winter rankings
include Colorado College (157 points - 67th place),
Birmingham-Southern College (135.50 points - 80th place) and
Sewanee: University of the South (69.50 points - 157th place).
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint
effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of
Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each
institution's finish in up to 18 sports -- nine women’s and
nine men's.
To date, all winter NCAA championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: men’s track & field - North Central (Ill.); women’s track & field - Wartburg (Iowa); wrestling - Wartburg (Iowa); men’s swimming & diving - Denison (Ohio); women’s swimming & diving - Emory (Ga.); men’s basketball - Wisconsin Whitewater; women’s basketball - Illinois Wesleyan; men’s ice hockey - St. Norbert (Wis.); women’s ice hockey - RIT (N.Y.)
