Trinity falls to Pomona-Pitzer in NCAA Women's Tennis Second Round

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Trinity's women's tennis team lost a 5-2 decision to Pomona-Pitzer in the second round of the NCAA Playoffs on Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers (18-8) fell behind 1-2 after doubles, clinching the final match to avoid the 0-3 deficit.  Mackenzie Knoop and Thavindra Ekanayake took a 9-7 at No. 1 doubles to open Trinity's scoring.

Knoop was also Trinity's lone singles victory before the match was clinched, taking a 7-5, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles.  Her win cut the lead to 4-2 at the time, but Pomona clinched shortly after.

Katie Griffith and Kylie Hornbeck lost 8-2 at No. 2 doubles, then Kassie Seger and Stephanie Williamson suffered a narrow 8-9 (2-7) loss at No. 3 doubles to put Pomona up 2-0 at the time.

Griffith then lost 5-7, 3-6 at No. 3 singles, while Williamson lost a three-set match at the sixth position, and the Tigers trailed 4-1.  Both Kylie Hornbeck and Lavinia Bendandi won the opening set of their matchest at Nos. 4 and 5 singles, but both were taken to a third set.  Neither match was finished.

Trinity is eliminated from the playoffs, while Pomona will face hosting Claremont in tomorrow's regional final.
