BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The defending champion Centre College
men came out of the gate strong and hold a commanding 51.5 point
lead after Day One of the 2012 SCAC Track & Field

With seven events scored and in the books, the Colonels are in
first place with 94 points, while host school Birmingham Southern
is in second with 42.5 points.
At the conference championship meet, the top eight finishers in each event score points, and the top three finishers in each event earn all-conference honors. Through one day and seven scored events, the Colonels have one conference championship performance and seven additional all-conference performances.
Senior Jacob Carter was the lone individual conference champion
for the first day of the meet, recording a throw of 42-09.75 in the
shot put to take first place. The reigning SCAC Men's Field Athlete
of the Week also scored in two other throws, earning all-conference
honors with a second place finish in the hammer throw and fifth
place in the javelin with a distance of 50.99 meters.

The Colonels will look to maintain their lead as competition resumes tomorrow with the remaining 13 events of the meet, including the discus throw, hurdles and relays.
