Oglethorpe men lead after Day 1 of the 2012 SCAC Golf Championships

TUNICA, Miss. - The third-ranked Oglethorpe University men hold a three shot lead over Centre College after the first day of the 2012 SCAC Men's Golf Championships - which is being contested at the Tunica National Golf Club in Tunica, Miss. Team Scores | Individual Scores

Oglethorpe's Eric Quinn leads all players after shooting a blistering 5-under 67 on Friday - equalling the SCAC tournament record single-day low score for an opening round. George Waterhouse of Sewanee shot at opening-round 67 at the 1970 championships.

The all-time low round at a SCAC tournament is a 65 fired by Jerre Maynor of Sewanee in the second round of the 2006 championships.

Quinn is followed on the individual leaderboard by Landon Michelson and Michael Wallace of Birmingham-Southern College and Centre's Grant Hinton, who each finished the 7,111-yard layout with a 1-under score of 71.

The Petrel men lead with a team score of 291 followed by Centre with a 294 and Birmingham-Southern with a 298.

Both Oglethorpe and Centre's opening round scores are the lowest team rounds since the tournament moved to a 54-hole format in 2008.

Play continues on Saturday and concludes on Sunday.
