SUWANEE, Ga. - It was a quite week for SCAC Field Hockey with just a handful of non conference games scheduled. Centre and Sewanee picked up wins over Trine and Sweet Briar respectively while Hendrix and Rhodes fell to Lindenwood and Christopher Newport.
- AROUND THE SCAC -
Centre played just one match over the last week, going on the road to pick up a 5-0 victory at Trine University on Friday. The Colonels currently stand at 9-4 overall on the season with a 3-1 record in the SCAC. Centre dominated play in the victory over Trine, taking 42 shots and putting 28 of those on cage while holding Trine without a shot attempt. Sarah Jessee scored her team-leading sixth and seventh goals of the year while Barbara Parks had a goal and an assist for the Colonels. Sydney White and Katy Meyer also scored goals while Alexis Hebert and Chelsea Klein also picked up assists in the win. Senior goalkeeper Patty Cowley didn't have to make a save in posting her third shutout victory of the season. Centre has a pair of non-conference matches this week as the Colonels travel to Division II Bellarmine on Thursday and host rival Transylvania on Sunday.
After 100 minutes of scoreless play, Hendrix
College lost in a penalty stroke-off 3-1 at
Lindenwood University on Saturday night. The official 1-0 loss was
the first non-conference defeat for the Warriors, who fall to 8-3
with just three games left in the regular season.nAfter both teams
missed in the first of the five-round stroke-off, Hendrix sophomore
defender Elizabeth Lancaster started the second round by making her
shot. The Lady Lions (1-9) followed with Ana Maria Llosa making her
penalty stroke. Kundai Nangati and Erin de Jesus went on to make
their shots on the third and fourth round, while the Warriors could
not put one past keeper Samantha Brown. In regulation,
Lindenwood outshot Hendrix 13-8. Junior Maggie DesPain led the
Warriors with three shots on goal. Hendrix freshman keeper Betsy
Kelly recorded a season-best 10 saves. Brown had five saves for the
Lady Lions. The Warriors will return home on Oct. 22 for a SCAC
game against Rhodes College.
Rhodes fell 4-1 in their lone contest of the week against
Christopher Newport. The Lynx are back in action Monday afternoon
as Rhodes is on the road during fall break and will take on New
Paltz State in Hartford, Connecticut on the campus of Trinity
College.
Sewanee opened a two-match road trip with a 6-1 win at
Sweet Briar, Sunday. In the contest Sewanee got a pair of goals
from junior Anne Booke. Sewanee also got scores from Karen Dawson,
Elise Landau, Molly Kennedy and Austen Zoutewelle. Overall, the
Tigers offense put up a season-high 34 shots, in addition to taking
13 penalty corners against Sweet Briar. Sewanee will now close out
its two-game swing at Washington & Lee Monday afternoon.
