TUNICA, Miss. - The third-ranked Oglethorpe University men led start to finish and won their fourth conference title in the last five years and 10th overall with a final round 288 at the 2012 SCAC Golf Championship which was played at Tunica National Golf Club in Tunica, Miss. Oglethorpe's Eric Quinn fired a three-day total of 213, including a final round 70, to win medalist honors by seven strokes. By virtue of his win, Quinn is also regonized as the 2012 SCAC Men's Golfer-of-the-Year - the ninth time an Oglethorpe men's golfer has earned the honor. Quinn's three-total breaks the all-time SCAC record for best 54-hole score; the old mark of 216 was held by Chris Morris of Centre College from the 2010 tournament.
Anthony Maccaglia, who joined Quinn on the All-SCAC First Team, was named the 2012 SCAC Freshman-of-the-Year. The first-year player finished with a three-day total of 224. Hayden Jones, who finished in a tie for second with a three-day total of 220 also earned All-SCAC First Team honors.
The Petrel men finished with at team score of 883, 21 shots clear of second-place Birmingham-Southern College, who finished with a team score of 904. The Centre College men were two shots back of Birmingham with a 906.
Rounding out the team scores in the field at the SCAC Championships, Trinity University finished fourth with a 918 while Rhodes College was two shots back in fifth with a team score of 920. Southwestern University finished sixth with a team score of 924.
Millsaps College placed seventh with a three-day score of 932, Sewanee was eighth at 984, Hendrix College was ninth at 1001 and the University of Dallas finished 10th with a three-day score of 1077.
