SUWANEE, Ga. - Oglethorpe University's Mark Lavery and Trinity University's Zach Garcia were each named to the D3soccer.com All-America team, the website recently announced.
Lavery, who was named to the second-team, finished the 2011 season with six goals, four assists for 16 points and helped lead the Stormy Petrels to their first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship and the program's first-ever NCAA tournament bid.
In addition to being named a first-team All-SCAC selection, Lavery also earned SCAC Defensive Player of the Year honors as he led an Oglethorpe defense that allowed its fewest goals per game in conference play (1.22 per game – third in the SCAC) since the 2005 season when the Petrels led the league in that category.
Garcia helped lead Trinity to a first-place finish during the regular season and the #1 seed in the 2011 SCAC tournament and joined Lavery on the second-team. He was second in the league with five game-winning goals and finished the season with six goals, five assists and 17 points. He helped lead the Tigers to an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.
