On the men's side, Trinity picked up wins in the 200 freestyle relay, 500 freestyle, 200 IM and 400 medley relay. The only event the Tigers did not win was the 50 freestyle.
The highlight of the night came in the evening's final competition. With the Trinity women having already won the 400 medley relay, the Tiger men swept the relay with a 3:27.18. to become just the fourth team in league history to sweep the 400 medley relay. The 400 medley relay was previously swept by Centre (2009), DePauw (2007) and Trinity (2004).
Colorado College senior standout Jordan DeGayner prevented a Trinity sweep as he successfully defended his 50 freestyle title by swimming an NCAA B-Cut time of 20.55 seconds.
Trinity senior Alex Miranda won his third 500 freestyle championship in four years as he beat teammate Lucas Belury by two seconds with a swim of 4:37.36 compared to Belury's 4:39.38. Classmate Matthew Wey won the 200 IM with a time of 1:56.53.
The team of Adam Thomas, Aaron Shaver, Stephen Culberson and Kevin Thomas won the 200 freestyle relay by clocking a 1:22.94 NCAA B-Cut time. Sepencer Bard, Culberson, Shaver and Wey became the first Trinity team since 2010 to win the 400 medley relay.
In winning four the five swimming events on the evening, Trinity (342 points) extended its lead over Colorado College (224 points). Following Colorado College was Sewanee (175 points), Centre (170 points), Rhodes (91 points), Southwestern (72 points), Hendrix (66 points) and Austin College (59 points).
In women's action Centre won three of the five swimming events as the Colonels took top marks in the 200 freestyle relay, 500 freestyle and the 50 freestyle. Trinity won the 400 medley relay as well as the 1-meter diving competition and Southwestern earned a win in the 200 IM.
Centre's Clark Weber broke her own SCAC championship record by winning the 500 freestyle in 4:58.59. The time was also good for an NCAA B-Cut time. Teammate Colleen Maggard picked up a win in the 50 freestyle as she finished in 24.03 seconds. Finally the Colonel team of Maggard, Weber, Hadley Judson and Maddie Mescher took top honors in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:37.16.
Trinity's Kathryn Sheldon won the 1-meter diving competition by scoring 437.50 points. She continued a stretch of Tiger dominance as Trinity won its seventh straight women's 1-meter board. The last time a non-Trinity diver won the event was Hendrix's Jill Greshowak in 2005.
Along with Sheldon's win in the 1-meter, Trinity's quartet of Jennifer Ince, Kelly Holton, Mary Price and Lydia Jones won the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:56.17.
Southwestern senior Sarah Ayers became the first Pirate to win the 200 IM as she tallied a winning NCAA B-Cut time of 2:08.61.
Trinity (313 points) leads Centre (210 points) by 103 total points. Following Centre is Colorado College (175 points), Sewanee (138 points), Rhodes (127 points), Southwestern (125 points), Hendrix (73 points) and Austin College (46 points).
Day three of the SCAC Swimming & Diving championships resume February 17 at 10:30 a.m. CST with prelimary action followed by finals competition at 6:30 p.m.
