JACKSON, Miss. - Millsaps College Athletic Director Tim Wise announced the hiring of Eddie Brescher as the new men's and women's head golf coach.
“Eddie Brescher will bring a keen sense of how to develop a collegiate golf program,” says Wise. “With the experience of playing and teaching, Eddie has a sound approach in the foundations of producing competitive golf teams.”
Brescher is a former player at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, La. where he competed in the Southland Conference at the NCAA Division I level and earned All-Academic honors among his conference.
“I am very excited about joining the Millsaps Golf Program, says Brescher. “I believe this is an amazing opportunity and I look forward to growing both the men's and women's golf programs. “
Since December of 2009, Brescher has been Assistant Director of Golf at the Beau Chene Country Club in Mandeville, La. In that role, he helped organize day-to-day operations, corporate outings, club repairs, and held camps for all ages.
The Ponchatoula, Louisiana native saw some time in 2009 and 2010 at the professional level as he competed on the Adams and Hooters Golf Tours as well as qualifying stages of the PGA Tour Q School. He also had a stint as a caddy for good friend, Casey Crain on the 2011 Nationwide Tour.
After his collegiate playing career came to a close in 2008, Brescher was introduced to collegiate coaching as a Graduate Assistant. During that time, Brescher helped with the recruiting of new athletes, arranging team practices, and implementing workouts. During that year, the Lions won two tournaments and finished third overall in the conference tournament.
“I look forward to meeting our current players along with our incoming freshman,” adds Brescher. “I will use my many years experience in the golf industry and my playing history to lead both the men's and women's programs to success at Millsaps. “
Brescher earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing in December of 2007 and in the role working as a Graduate Assistant, received his Masters of Business Administration in 2009.
“His passion for the game of golf, his commitment to the student-athlete model, and his desire to provide direction in his role as a mentor to our students make Brescher a winner for our staff,” added Wise. “We are very pleased to have Eddie join the Millsaps Athletics family and make an impact on our community.”
