THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Colorado College was knocked out of the 2011 NCAA Division III Tournament after falling to host California Lutheran University, 3-1 during the regional championship match on Sunday afternoon. Box Score
Senior Hannah Varnell led the Tiger defense with 23 digs to
finish the season with a single-season record of 625 digs. Varnell
is only the second player in program history to reach the 600 dig
mark for a single season.
Senior Sarah Schmoker led the attack for Colorado College with 18
kills and three service aces. Junior Laura Goldsmith earned her
third double-double of the tournament with 11 kills and 11
digs.
Senior Amy Schornack ran the offense with 36 assists and finished
the season with 1,401 assists to hold the No. 1 spot for most
assists in a single season.
The Regals hit a .327 attack percentage during the match and
blocked 13 shots to hold the top-seeded Tigers to a .138 hitting
percentage.
Schmoker led Colorado College in the first set with seven kills
and two aces to help the Tigers win the first set, 28-26 and take
an early one-set lead.
Cal Lutheran rallied back in the second set with a 25-13 victory
over CC on a set-high .419 hitting percentage.
The Regals carried that momentum into the third set, beating the
Tigers, 25-21 to take a 2-1 lead.
CC was unable to comeback in the fourth set, falling to Cal
Lutheran, 25-18 while hitting a .050 attack percentage.
The Regals were led by Kylie McLogan with 20 kills and 11
digs.
Colorado College finished its season with a 33-7 record.
