COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Todd Doebler, who recently completed his fifth season as head coach of the men's tennis team at Penn State University, has been named director of tennis and fitness center coordinator at Colorado College, Director of Athletics Ken Ralph announced today.
"This is a very exciting opportunity for me and I would like to thank Ken Ralph, Greg Capell and Anne Goodman James for putting this all together," Doebler said. "I can't wait to get on campus and begin working with the student-athletes on both the men's and women's tennis teams. Additionally, being the fitness center coordinator is going to be a unique opportunity to become more involved on a campus wide level."
A native of Hatfield, Pa., Doebler posted a 71-61 record with the Nittany Lions. During his tenure, PSU made a pair of NCAA tournament appearances and was ranked as high as No. 34 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national rankings.
Prior to his stint at Penn State, Doebler spent four seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Notre Dame, where he was named the 2004 and 2006 ITA Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year. He also served as recruiting coordinator and a liaison to the strength and conditioning staff.
Doebler's Division I experience includes a two-year stay at Pepperdine University, during which the Waves compiled a 43-14 (.754) record and earned NCAA Tournament berths each season.
Doebler began his coaching career as an assistant at Division III Trinity (Conn.) College in 1997 and then spent the next two seasons coaching the men's and women's teams at Connecticut College.
"We're thrilled to have someone with Todd's experience and track record of success on board to lead Colorado College tennis," Ralph said. "He is an outstanding coach and educator. Most importantly, he is committed to the philosophy of balancing excellence in the classroom as well as on the court. He will make a tremendous addition to our department and the community."
A graduate of Bloomsburg University with a degree in psychology, Doebler won conference titles in singles, doubles as well as a team championship. He earned a master's degree in psychology from the University of Hartford in 1998.
Doebler is a product of the USA High Performance Coaching Program and holds Professional Level One certifications from the United States Professional Tennis Association and the USTA Sports Science Committee.
Doebler will begin his duties at Colorado College on Aug. 1.
