LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's swimming and diving season continued with four of the league's seven teams in action, which included Austin College hosting a double dual with Centenary and McMurry.
The Austin College women had a huge day with a number of first-place finishes, including a record-setting performance by Samantha Thiele in the 200 breast, as the 'Roos topped both Centenary and McMurry in the team's lone home meet of the season. Austin College defeated Centenary 133-95 and McMurry 149-74 on the day.
Thiele and Chloe Hunt each had four first-place finishes, and Thiele's time of 2:32.65 broke the program record and was nearly 15 seconds faster than the second place finisher. Hunt, Thiele, Jade Kemp, and Eleanna Martinez got the scoring started with a first place finish in the 200 medley relay, finishing with a time of 1:59.51, and Hunt would pick up her second victory of the day not long after with a first-place time of 2:10.42 in the 200 free.
Kemp added a first-place finish in the 100 back with a time of 1:08.59, and Thiele earned first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:11.91. Thiele and Martinez finished in the top two spots in the 50 free, with Thiele coming out on top with a time of 26.35, while Martinez took first in the 100 free with a time of 1:01.39. Hunt added a victory in the 200 back, touching with a time of 2:21.84 in the event.
Becca Tobias gave the 'Roos first place points in the 400 IM with a time of 5:31.91. Kemp, Louisa White, Rubio, and Hunt wrapped up the day with a first-place finish in the 200 free relay, coming in with a time of 1:53.66.
The Centenary Ladies split the dual, defeating McMurry, 139.50-76.50. Senior Sarah Harrison claimed victory in the 1,650 free, swimming a time of 19:36.01, and freshman Anacelia Galeano Balam won the 100 fly, swimming a time of 1:06.65.
For McMurry, junior Kristina Sullivan won the 500 free in a time of 5:45.21, and Macie Lindenmier took first in the 100 back in a time of 1:11.42.
The University of the Ozarks women's swim and dive team had an impressive showing at Senior Day against Williams Baptist University, posting a 152-57 win. Senior Dawn Hampton capped her special day by winning both diving competitions - scoring 136.35 in the one-meter event and 169.10 i the one-meter (six dive) competition. Three other Eagles were double winners on the day, including Antalya Meals who touched first in both the 50 free (27.40) and 100 free (1:01.01), Rosie Wade, who took top honors in the 200 free (2:05.70) and 100 back (1:05.25), and Shalley Coffin swam a 6:09.47 to win the 500 free and a 12:33.50 to win the 1000 free. Paige Vire took top honors in the 100 breast (1:16.21) and the team of Meals, Frazier, Wellborn and Wade won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:49.58.
The 2021 swimming and diving schedule continues next week with two teams wrapping up the abbreviated regular season prior to the SCAC Championships, which are scheduled for Thursday-Saturday, February 11-13 in San Antonio, Texas at the Blossom Athletic Center.
