Sharwil Bell, Rhodes College, Women's Basketball

SHARWIL BELL OF RHODES COLLEGE, a junior guard on the women's basketball team who hails from Memphis, Tenn., has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending January 9, 2011.

Bell, who is a Biology Major and a Business Major who currently holds a 3.96 GPA, is currently leading the SCAC in scoring averaging 17.9 points per game.

Off the court, Bell volunteered for Lebohnner Childrens Hospital the summer of 2010 and has been a secretary for the Rhodes College Student-Athlete Advisory Council. She also has volunteered at the Delta Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine in order to explore her interest in the field of Physical Therapy. In this capacity she observes treatments and volunteers at the facility once a week.

Bell also has ongoing participation in volunteer activities with the Mid South Chapter of the National MS Society. She volunteered at Walk MS in 2010 to aid in the organization's efforts to create a world free of multiple sclerosis. Recently, her family made holiday greeting cards to be distributed to people living with multiple sclerosis and their families.

She will soon begin a shadowing program in the Physical Therapy Department at Methodist University Hospital. Bell also volunteers for Habitat for Humanity.

Bell was recently informed that she had met the requirements needed to become eligible for induction to Beta Beta Beta, the biology honor society on campus.
