LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - After a winter storm forced the cancellation of events a week ago, five of the league's seven men's golf teams enjoyed the sunshine while competing at the Division 3 San Antonio Shootout which was hosted by Schreiner University at TPC San Antonio..

Schreiner hosted Southwestern, St. Thomas, Texas Lutheran and Trinity and seven additional teams from the American Southwest Conference for the event that was played at the par-72, 7,106 yard TPC Course in San Antonio, Texas.

Trinity secured the team championship, shooting a combined 312 in Tuesday's final round, following a 36-hole day with scores of 303 and 302 on Monday. With a three-day total of 917 (+53), the Tigers won by nine strokes over second-place McMurry and held a 15-shot advantage over Concordia (Texas) in third place. Among SCAC schools in the field, Texas Lutheran finished fourth with a three-round score of 939 (+75), Southwestern was fifth, four shots back of TLU, with a team score of 943 (+79), St. Thomas finished in ninth with a team score of 956 (+92) and the host Schreiner was 11th with a 985 (+121).

Trinity sophomore Holden Wisener paced the Tigers with a fourth-place individual finish, shooting a 75 (+3) in Tuesday's round to match his 75-75 on the opening day of action. The sophomore earned his best finish as a Tiger, eclipsing his tie for seventh at the Alamo City Classic earlier this month. Junior DJ Springer joined Wisener in the top five of the individual leaderboard after he posted a 76 for a three-round mark of 228.

Chase Maus produced a third-place individual finish for the Bulldogs as the junior carded a 76 on Tuesday and finished in third with a 222 (+6). He was the highest-placing Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference golfer in the field, and finished just one shot out of the playoff between McMurry teammates Lane Roye and Brendan Lowrance.

Southwestern men's golf opened its season with a fifth-place finish. Sophomore Nicholas Hoisington led the Pirates in his first event for the program, scoring a 235 with 75, 80, 80 splits to finish tied for 16th at 19 over par. St. Thomas also made its 2021 spring debut, and led by a top 10 individual finish from junior Jonathan Miller, the Celts finished in ninth place. Schreiner sophomore Jake Sitterle had rounds of 78-76-81 to finish at 235 (+19) - good for a tie for 16th - to pace the Mountaineers.
