Birmingham-Southern split this week, suffering a
tough home loss to Berry College, 86-84, Tuesday, but then winning
their first road game of the season, defeating Huntingdon College,
70-38, Sunday. BSC is now 4-1 on the season. Freshman Alex Adams

DePauw University, Sunday.
Centre dropped a pair of games to HCAC schools
this week, falling to Transylvania 58-57 at home and then losing
67-57 to Hanover on the road. The Colonels game against the
Pioneers was tight throughout and a three-pointer at the end of the
game wouldn't fall as Centre fell at home. The Colonels shot only
32.8% in the loss to Hanover, including only six of 21 (28.6%) from
beyond the three-point arc. Centre will go on the road to open SCAC
play with games against Birmingham Southern and Rhodes this
week.
Alyssa Aldaz recorded 13 points, five steals and three assists as
Colorado College held on for a 70-66 victory over
the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Sunday. Despite missing more
than 15 minutes of the first half after picking up two early fouls,
Eliese Hansberry finished with 16 points, a team-high six rebounds
and two blocked shots. Becky Luetjen added 16 points, four steals
and three rebounds. CC scored 24 points off 25 Raider turnovers and
finished the game with 16 steals and six blocked shots. Hansberry

Whitworth, but Colorado College dropped a 79-76 decision to the
Pirates in overtime. The Tigers trailed by 15 points early in the
second half against, but stormed back to take a three-point lead
with just over eight minutes remaining in regulation. Seven
different players scored during CC’s 19-3 run. The Tigers
scored six straight points and tied the game with 58 seconds to go
on a layup by Luetjen and had a chance to win the game, but
Clegg’s jumper from the right side of the lane rolled off the
rim with five seconds to go. Luetjen recorded her first career
double-double with 18 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.
Colorado College takes a 3-1 record into its Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference opener on Friday night against Millsaps
College.
#12 DePauw finished 2-1 on the week and improved
to 3-2 on the season. The Tigers opened the week with a 66-46 win
at Anderson on Tuesday before falling by a 70-67 score in one
overtime at Thomas More and topping Manchester, 57-43. The latter
two games were part of the Julie Costello Memorial Classic at
Thomas More. In the win at Anderson, Katie Aldrich led the Tigers
with 16 points, while Katie Mathews added 12. Aldrich, Emily
Marshall and Ellie Pearson each grabbed seven rebounds as DePauw
held a 40-32 edge on the boards. Mathews and Marshall each matched
career highs with 22 and 20 points, respectively, while Marshall
posted a double-double with a game-high 17 rebounds. Kate Walker
paced DePauw with 12 points in the win over Manchester followed by
Emily Marshall with her second straight double-double of 11 points
and 11 boards and Jenna Fernandez with 10 points. Marshall and
Katie Mathews were named to the all-tournament team. For the week,
Mathews led the Tigers with 13.3 points per game, while Marshall
averaged a double-double of 12.7 points and 11.7 rebounds per
outing.
Hendrix used a balanced scoring attack with four
players in double digits to outlast University of the Ozarks,
75-73, and stretch its win streak to 13 games against the Eagles on
Tuesday night. The Warriors improve to 3-0 on the year for the
fifth consecutive season. The first half of action saw nine lead
changes and seven ties, with the Warriors coming out on top 43-39
at the break. Hendrix shot 50 percent from the field in the opening
20 minutes and knocked down six three-pointers. The second half
remained close with four lead changes and three ties. The Warriors
held the largest lead of the second half at eight points with 6:39
left in regulation, however, the Eagles answered with an 8-0 run to
knot the game at 68 with 3:58 remaining on the clock. Sophomore
guard Anna Roane knocked down her only three-pointer of the game on
Hendrix’s next possession and the Warriors finished off a 7-0
run with two consecutive fast break layups. Ozarks made it a
two-point affair after a shot from behind the arc and a pair of
free throws. The Eagles pulled down a defensive rebound with nine
seconds left and rushed down the court for a last second
three-point attempt, however, Warriors’ senior forward
Chelsey White was there for the rejection and the ball rolled out
of bounds as time expired. Junior forward Christina Byler led the
Warriors with 13 points on 4-of-12 shooting, including three
three-pointers. Sophomore guard Jordan Henderson added 12 points
and two three-pointers, while White and sophomore forward Sam

squad with six rebounds.
Millsaps lost a 67-64
decision at the University of Dallas in its only competition of the
week, falling in the waning seconds off freshman Kylie
Yoshimura’s clutch basket with 9 seconds left. The loss
dropped the Majors to 0-3 on the early season, with their next game
Monday night against Rust. Four Majors were in double figures,
including freshman Shante Morton with her second double-double in
three games with 17 points and 13 boards. Junior Ronda Webb added
12 points and Jasmine Harbor and Lovie Love chipped in 11
apiece.
Oglethorpe went 1-2 in three games against
Maryville, Manchester and Thomas More last week. Against Maryville,
cold shooting (38%) felled the Petrels and, despite holding a two
point advantage at halftime, Oglethorpe could not slow down the
Scots in the second half. Typically deadly from the outside,
Oglethorpe only connected on 9 of 36 (25%) three-point attempts on
a night when Maryville fed their post players the basketball and
managed to shoot 46% from the field and 43% from behind the three
point line. The Petrels managed to do a great job on the offensive
boards (11 in the game) but their cold shooting kept the team from
rallying for the win. On Saturday against Manchester, the Petrels
were down by nine points at the half before rallying to claim the
victory on the campus of Thomas More College. Oglethorpe was lifted
by the ball-hawking second half defense of two freshmen, Katie Lynn
and Megan Miles, who each also combined to score 12 points in the
decisive twenty minutes. Freshman Mareva Bone posted a team-high 16
points in the afternoon win and Chelsea MacDonald and Sarah Jones
each chipped in nine points for the Petrels. Kaci Palmore continued
to do yeoman's work in the paint, posting 9 points, grabbing 8
rebounds and rejecting 5 shots. Against nationally revered Thomas
More on Sunday, the Stormy Petrels could not shake off 30 turnovers
and a tough day shooting the ball from the field (33%) in the loss
to the undefeated Saints. Freshman Katie Weeks led the Petrels in
scoring with 13 on the afternoon and fellow freshman Sarah Giles
scored 9 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Mareva Bone continued her
steady play with 10 points and 4 rebounds in the loss to the highly
regarded Thomas More squad. Oglethorpe is now 2-2 on the season and
will return home to face Agnes Scott College this Wednesday at 6:00
p.m. on Pinholster Court.
Rhodes split a pair of games at the McWilliams
Classic hosted by Washington University. In the opener the Lynx
used a 24-4 run to down LaVerne (CA) University 69-56. Jenille Pate
led the way with a career high 25 points, on 11 of 14 shooting from
the field. In the championship game against pre-season #1 ranked
Washington University, the Lynx lost 82-62. Becky Atnip led the
Lynx with 23 points and Sharwil Bell added 15 points and 9
rebounds. Rhodes is 3-2 overall and will host DePauw University on
December 4th in the SCAC opener for both teams.
Sewanee played Agnes Scott in DIII women's
basketball action last Tuesday night and after leading 35-33 at the
half, took the eventual 67-60 loss to the host Scotties. Dani
Kabbes (Chesterfield, Mo., Villa Duchesne) led the Sewanee effort
with 15 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double. Kabbes is
averaging 13 points and nine rebounds for Sewanee so far in 2009.
Lauren Gulley (Winchester, Tenn., Franklin County) was also in
double digits for Sewanee with 12 points. Sewanee shot nearly 33%
from the field and Agnes Scott was 36% accurate from the field. The
Scotties also had a 56-43 edge in total rebounds. Sewanee was

Southwestern returned home for the first time this
season and took advantage by winning both games at the
Southwestern/Austin College Classic on Friday and Saturday. The
PIrates handled LaGrange College 76-68 on Friday night in a game
that was a scrappy contest. Saturday, free throws proved to be the
difference as SU scored 29 points from the free throw line en route
to a 76-69 win over Otterbein College. Juniors Shae Seagraves and
Staley Mullins were named to the all-tournament team for their
outstanding play in both contests.
#17 Trinity played just once over the last week,
improving to 3-0 with a 77-67 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor in Sams
Gymnasium on Tuesday. Trinity got 18 points and 11 rebounds from
Danielle Hubenak, the SCAC Player of the Week last week. Abby
Dietert scored 19 points to lead all players, also adding six
rebounds and four assists. Trinity faces Otterbein at home on
Monday night, then takes on Southwestern in the SCAC opener on
Thursday at 6:00 p.m. The Tigers have swept the home-and-home
series with Southwestern each of the past two seasons, though all
but one of those games have been decided by less than 10 points.
