SARAH JOHNSON
OF RHODES COLLEGE, a freshman
guard from Little Rock, Ark., has been named SCAC Basketball
Player-of-the-Week for games played Monday, January 23 through
Sunday, January 29.
Johnson led the Lynx to a dramatic comeback 97-90 win in
overtime on the road against Trinity. Trailing 75-73 with 2.6
seconds remaining Johnson stole a Trinity inbounds
pass and scored the game tying layup with 0.6 seconds to play. In
overtime Johnson took over scoring 11 points in
the five minute session, leading Rhodes to their first win in San
Antonio in 11 years. For the game the first year point guard had
her first career double double, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10
rebounds. She also had two assists, three blocks and two
steals.
For the weekend the Lynx went 2-0 after beating Southwestern 74-67
on Saturday. In two games Johnson averaged 14.0
points, seven rebounds, four assists, 1.5 blocks and 2.5 steals per
contest. The Lynx improved to 14-5 overall and 8-3 in the SCAC.
