KASEY JACKSON
OF CENTRE COLLEGE, a senior from Joplin, Mo., has
been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female
Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending May 15, 2011.
Jackson, a two-year captain on the Centre women's
track & field team, is a three-time team MVP, which is awarded
to the team member who scores the most points in a season.
She currently holds school outdoor records in the 100
meter hurdles, 400 meter hurdles, long jump and 4x100
meter relay and 4x400 meter relay and indoor records in the 200
meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, 55 meter hurdles, long jump and
4x400 meter relay.
A Stodgehill Faculty Scholar (which is awarded to the top 10% of
the incoming class), Jackson is an Art of
Communications and Culture Major and holds a GPA of 3.738. She is
also a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, an honor society that
recognizes meritorious leadership and service in extracurricular
activities, as well as Phi Sigma Iota, an honor society that
recognizes high achievement in a foreign language.
Among her many volunteer and service related activities,
Jackson has been Vice President of the French
Society (2010 and 2011), a French Department Representative (2010,
2011) and a volunteer counselor for Girls on the GO, which is
a nutrition and fitness camp for 8-12 year old girls.
She has also worked with Habitat for Humanity, where she helped
build houses for the underpriviledged (2007) as well as Service
Plunge, where she organized and folded new shipments for the
Salvation Army (2007). Jackson has also worked
with Soups on Us, where she assembled box lunches for those less
fortunate in the Danville, Ky., community.
