Anne Waidelich, Trinity University, Women's Basketball

ANNE WAIDELICH OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Floyd, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending February 27, 2011.

Waidelich, a guard on the Tigers' women's basketball team who recently became a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee at Trinity, served as a counselor this past summer at the Stillwater Sports Camp, a Christian sports camp for children held in Alto Frio, and also at Super Summer Christian youth camp in Abilene, Texas.

Last semester, she had the privilege of mentoring two first grade girls at Lamar Elementary School where she helped them with their reading skills and ate lunch with them twice a week.

Playing basketball has opened up many opportunities for service in the San Antonio community. The past two summers, Waidelich has worked as a coach at the Basketball Academy Camps held at Trinity. Last year she helped referee games for the Upward Basketball program at a local church.

She and her teammates volunteered at the San Antonio Rock-n-Roll marathon last year where they handed out medals and helped make preparations for the race. Waidelich has also volunteered and helped prepare a pep-rally and a fall carnival at two local elementary schools during the fall.

Through the college ministry at Castle Hills First Baptist Church, Waidelich helped with cleanup at a man’s house that was in need of repairs.

At Trinity, she is also a member of the FCA (Fellowship of Student Athletes) group on campus. With this group, she visited the San Antonio Ronald McDonald house on Halloween. Just a few weeks ago, she went to a high school in Brackettville to help facilitate their FCA and simply hang out with the youth there.

Academically, Waidelich has been on the Dean’s List every semester.
