SCAC Men's Lacrosse Recap - Week One

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- The 2021 SCAC men's lacrosse season is officially underway with three of the league’s four teams in action this past weekend.

Colorado College is 2-0 after victories over Colorado State-Pueblo a week ago Sunday (18-3) and a conference in at Southwestern on 20-5 on Saturday. First-year Tigers Declan Maguire and Dylan Brown combined for seven goals and a pair of assists to help the Colorado College men's lacrosse team to its road conference victory. Maguire scored once in every quarter, and his first goal ignited a 10-0 run that snapped a 1-1 tie and gave the Tigers a 11-1 lead after 30 minutes. Brown's first collegiate goal put CC ahead 4-1 in the first quarter and he added two more goals and a pair of assists in the second half to help the Tigers pull away. First-year goaltender Ben Anastos improved to 2-0 with a seven-save effort.

Southwestern is 2-1 on the season, sandwiching the CC lost with a season-opening 19-5 win against Hendrix and a 19-2 conference win at Centenary on Sunday. Senior attacker Jacob Hamilton scored a career-high five goals in Sunday's victory which evened the Pirates' conference mark at 1-1. Hudson Bearden won 22 of the game's 23 faceoff opportunities, bringing his season percentage to 0.845, which is third in the nation at the Division III level. Bearden also grabbed 16 ground balls, bringing his per-game average to 13.67, which also ranks third in the nation. Matt Caldwell and Zac Asbury each scored three goals, and Jack Carolan led the Pirates with three assists.

Centenary (0-3) is still seeking its first win of the season, dropping non-conference games at Pfeiffer and at Averett before Sunday's SCAC setback to Southwestern. Sophomore attacker Mark Temple leads the Gents with four goals.

All four men's teams are expected to be in action this week, highlighted by the University of Dallas making its season debut Sunday against Centenary.
