LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Three of the league's men's lacrosse teams were in action, highlighted by Southwestern picking up a 27-3 conference victory over Centenary on Friday.
On Senior Day, it was appropriate that Southwestern seniors Jacob Hamilton and Zac Asbury provided much of the show, combining for eight goals and 10 assists in the win. Fellow senior Alberto Quinones had a goal and an assist with three ground balls and a caused turnover.
Southwestern scored six of the seven goals in the fourth, with Asbury scoring two and assisting on another to finish with five goals and six assists. Hamilton had three goals and four assists. Nick Doxey had five goals and two assists. The Pirates dominated possession thanks to Hudson Bearden, who set a school record with 30 face-offs won, beating Zane Abbott's record of 25. Centenary goalie Thomas Siskron had 22 saves on 49 shots.
Colorado College had three non-conference matches over the week, culminating with a huge 12-11 overtime road victory over No. 5 Christopher Newport on Sunday. Junior attackman Elliot Nelson struck for a man-up goal with 1:35 remaining in overtime to give the CC the victory - the program's first win over a team ranked in the top five of the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's (USILA) Division III Poll. Hansen led the Tigers with four goals, while Jack Haims produced a game-high five points with three goals and a pair of assists. In addition to his game-winning goal, Nelson dished out a game-high three assists. Isaac Atencio led the CC defense with two caused turnovers and two ground balls, while Will Burdette picked up four ground balls. Keeper Ben Anastos finished with 14 saves and four ground balls.
It was a week of tight games for CC as the Tigers dropped a 13-12 double-overtime thriller to Colorado Mesa on Monday before bouncing back with an 18-16 victory over Southern Virginia on Friday.
