AROUND THE SCAC

The Austin College men's soccer team went 0-1-1 over the weekend, battling Southwestern to a 0-0 double overtime draw before falling 3-0 to No. 14-ranked Trinity, bringing the team's record to 3-9-3 overall this season. The 'Roos got an outstanding defensive effort anchored by James Saulnier and Evan Wyatt to keep the Pirates off the scoreboard despite Southwestern having a 19-6 shot advantage. Andrew Celio made eight saves to earn the clean sheet. Against Trinity, the 'Roos hung tough with the Tigers through the first half, trailing 1-0 at the break, before Trinity managed to put the game away with two second half goals. Celio again made eight saves, including saving a penalty kick in the loss. This week the 'Roos host Colorado College on Friday and Dallas on Sunday as part of Homecoming Weekend.

Centenary went 0-2 on the week with losses to Trinity (9-0) and Southwestern (3-1). The Gents lone goal came from Cole Davidson as the freshman delivered on his first, career goal. Junior Daryn Beaugh assisted on the score for the first of the season. Rylan Whan totaled 14 saves in the two contests to pace the Gents' keepers. Centenary returns to action on Friday, Oct. 25 as they host Dallas at 7 p.m. The Gents conclude their home slate on Sunday, Oct. 27 against Colorado College at 11 a.m.

Brandon Ogilvie recorded his first career hat trick to propel Colorado College to a 4-1 victory over Schreiner University on Friday afternoon at Stewart Field. The senior forward scored twice in the first half, including what proved to be his fourth game-winning tally of the season off the rebound of a shot by senior midfielder Andrew Salazar. On a day set aside to honor the seniors, sophomore midfielder Seth Newby struck for a pair of goals, including the first game winner of his career, to fuel a 3-0 victory over Texas Lutheran University. After several close calls during the first 30 minutes, Newby put Colorado College on the board when he chased down a pass from senior forward Brandon Ogilvie while making a run through the center of the defense and slotted a low shot to the right of TLU goalkeeper from 10 yards out. With only 29 seconds remaining before the half, CC doubled its lead on a goal by sophomore midfielder Max Grossenbacher. Senior midfielder Andrew Salazar started the play with a cross to the left post from 30 yards out on the right side. Junior defender Andrew Worthington headed the ball toward the right post and Grossenbacher touched it into the open net. Newby completed the first multiple-goal game of his career in the 53rd minute when he took a pass from freshman midfielder Caden McKenzie on the right edge of the box, dribbled toward the net and scored with a low shot toward the far post. At the other end of the pitch, sophomore Ian Horne had to make just two saves en route to his sixth clean sheet of the season. Colorado College hits the road next week when it plays at Austin College on Friday, Oct. 25, and at Centenary College on Sunday, Oct. 27.

The University of Dallas men's soccer team (5-10-1, 1-9-1 SCAC) went 0-2 on the week at home in conference-action. On Friday, in Irving, Texas, the Crusaders were defeated 2-0 by Texas Lutheran. Southwestern went 1-0-1 this weekend to move to 11-5-1 on the season and 9-1-1 in the SCAC. On Friday, two overtime frames couldn't settle the match as Austin College and Southwestern ended in a scoreless tie. Sunday, SU rebounded with a 3-1 win over Centenary College on Sunday as Matthew Nickell led offensively despite heading up the backfield for the Pirates with two goals. Southwestern has their final road weekend next, facing Schreiner and Texas Lutheran.

The Texas Lutheran men's soccer team got goals from Steven Ybarra and Lalo Ramirez on its way to a 2-0 shutout on the road Friday against the University of Dallas at Crusader Field. On Friday, Texas Lutheran used a great defensive effort to shut out Dallas. The defense held the Crusaders to just one shot on goal and four total shots all game. The game was thoroughly controlled by the Bulldogs, who notched 24 total shots and nine shots on goal. The Bulldogs traveled to Colorado College on Sunday and couldn't get their offense going in a 3-0 loss to the Tigers. The Bulldogs' offense never found a foothold as Colorado College held the Bulldogs to just three shots and two shots on goal for the game.

No. 14 Trinity went 3-0-0 over the past week, starting with a 2-1 win over Division I University of Incarnate Word on Tuesday, then finishing with a road weekend sweep in SCAC play against Centenary and Austin College.
