Trinity's Santana; Austin's Celio named SCAC Men's Soccer Players-of-the-Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -Trinity freshman midfielder Goncalo Santana and Austin College junior goalkeeper Andrew Celio have been named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Players-of-the-Week for Week Two of the SCAC Soccer Season.

 






 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of September 3 – September 8

GONCALO SANTANA OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a freshman midfielder from Salvador, Brazil, has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Tuesday, September 3 through Sunday, September 8.

Santana netted a pair of goals to lead Trinity to a 1-0-1 record on the road last weekend against Hardin-Simmons and Texas-Dallas.

With time running out and the Tigers trailing 1-0 against UT-Dallas, Santana scored the equalizer with just 1:13 remaining to allow Trinity to escape with a draw. He also scored the tying goal just before halftime against Hardin-Simmons, sparking the team to victory in the second half. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:

Freshman midfielder Michael Olivares of Southwestern scored his first collegiate goal this weekend against Hardin Simmons, the only goal the Pirates scored against the Comets. Sophomore defender Lalo Ramirez of Texas Lutheran continued his run of dominant offensive form in the early season, scoring his third goal in as many games and helped Texas Lutheran to a third straight win to start the year. Austin College, Centenary, Colorado College, Dallas and Schreiner did not nominate anyone for Offensive Player-of-the-Week.


SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Games of September 3 – September 8

ANDREW CELIO OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a junior goalkeeper from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Tuesday, September 3 through Sunday, September 8.

 
Celio was outstanding in goal over the weekend for Austin College, leading the 'Roos to a 1-1 record over the weekend. He played all 200 minutes in the team's two games and allowed only one goal for a 0.45 goals-against-average.

He also had a .857 save percentage with six stops and earned a shutout in a double overtime draw with UT-Tyler.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:

Junior midfielder Andrew Welsch of Texas Lutheran Welsch played a key role in helping Texas Lutheran record its second shutout of the season. Austin College, Centenary, Colorado College, Dallas, Schreiner, and Trinity did not nominate anyone for Offensive Player-of-the-Week.
