Trinity's Anderson Named Capital One Academic All-American

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Trinity men's soccer senior defender Ben Anderson has earned a spot on the Capital One Academic All-America Second Team.

Voting is conducted nationwide by members of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Anderson majors in political science and classical studies at Trinity, with a 3.97 grade point average. He is a key member of the Tiger defense which has yielded only seven goals in 23 games this season. Trinity is ranked No. 1 in the nation in goals against average, with .30 per game. The Tigers are also ranked second in scoring (90 goals, 3.91 per game).

The seventh-ranked Tigers will compete Saturday and Sunday at the NCAA Division III Soccer Championship Sectional in Dubuque, Iowa.

Trinity (20-2-1) meets Wartburg (IA) (17-4-2), which received votes in the national poll, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Loras (IA) College. The opener of the Sectional will pit host Loras (17-1-3), ranked sixth, with Westminster (MO) (13-8-1) at 5:00 p.m. The winners advance to Sunday’s quarterfinals, scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.

The NCAA Final Four is slated for December 6-7 at San Antonio’s Toyota Field. Trinity will co-host the men’s and women’s event, for the fifth straight year, with San Antonio Sports.
