Centenary College's Blount Earns SCAC Player of the Week Honors

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - For the second time this season, senior guard Jonathon Blount of Centenary College has earned SCAC Player of the Week honors. The league's leading scorer is averaging 21.6 points per game and has scored in double figures in 47 straight games, dating to the 2011-12 season.

 

 

 

 

SCAC PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK

JONATHAN BLOUNT OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a senior guard from Shreveport, La., has been selected the SCAC Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, January 27th through Sunday, February 2nd.

Blount led Centneary to a pair of SCAC road wins over the weekend, moving the Gents to just a 1.5 games out of first place. The senior averaged 20.5 points this weekend to move Centenary's win streak to three games and marked the first time since the 2003-04 season that the program has recorded 10 wins on Feb. 1.

Blount scored 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting including two three pointers to lead the Gents to a 78-71 win over Texas Lutheran in Seguin. He followed that up with a 19 point outing on 5-of-10 shooting and seven assists to lead Centenary to a huge win over second place Schreiner.

Blount shot 50% from the field as well as from the three point line and was 85% from the charity stripe. Blount also moved into the top 15 in career scorers with 1,280 points.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior guard Ransom Okpala of Austin College averaged 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds as the 'Roos split a pair of conference games last week, including just missing out on a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds in a win over TLU. Junior forward Chris Lesnansky of Colorado College averaged 17.0 points and 5.5 rebounds as Colorado College split a pair of road games last week. Senior guard AJ Myres of Schreiner had 36 points (18 ppg), 5 rebounds, nine assists, and five steals on the weekend, with 19 points vs. Centenary. Senior forward Sean Myers of Southwestern averaged 14 points per game this week, shooting 53% from the floor and 73% from the free throw line. Freshman guard Jordan Kouremetis of Texas Lutheran was terrific over the weekend, averaging 13.5 points, four rebounds and two assists per game while shooting 32 percent from the field. The freshman shot 3-of-11 from long range and was responsible for all but two of the Bulldogs' made 3-pointers over the two games. He was also second on the team with 10 made free throws. Senior forward Zach Lambert of Trinity averaged 16.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game for the weekend, hitting 42.3% (11-26) from the field and 72.7% (8-11) from the free throw line. Dallas did not nominate anyone.
