CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Currently in 16th place, Trinity University leads four Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) institutions ranked in the prestigious 2013-2014 Division III Learfield Sports Directors' Cup winter standings. Complete NACDA Release
Trinity totaled 127 points in the winter standings on the strength of its three NCAA appearances this winter. The Tigers placed 33rd in men's basketball and finished 21st in men's swimming & diving and 24th in women's swimming & diving.
Trinity tallied 281 points in the fall and currently sits in
16th place with 408 points through the winter season.
Colorado College scored 62 points during the winter sports season
on the heels of a 36th place finish in men's swimming & diving
and a 49th place finish in women's swimming & diving and is
currently ranked in 73rd place among the 283 schools ranked. The
Tigers amassed 89 points in the fall and have a total score of 151
points.
Southwestern University is 193rd with 50 points from its 17th
place finish in women's volleyball. The Pirates did not score
points in the winter standings.
Texas Lutheran University picked up 45 points during the winter
sports season - scoring 25 points from a 33rd place finish in
women's basketball and 20 points from a 52nd place finish in
women's indoor track & field. The Bulldogs are currently in
216nd place.
Williams (Mass.) College still leads all of Division III with
843.75 points and finished the winter strong with places of second
in men's basketball, fifth in both women's ice hockey and women's
swimming, eighth in men's swimming, 15th in skiing and also
qualified for the women's basketball championship. University of
Wisconsin-Whitewater moved into second with 648.75 points, Johns
Hopkins (Md.) University remains in third with 632.50 points
followed by Washington (Mo.) University in fourth with 581.50
points and Emory (Ga.) University in fifth with 536.50 points.
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint
effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of
Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each
institution's finish in up to 18 sports -- nine women’s and
nine men's.
All nine of the winter NCAA championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: women’s basketball – Farleigh Dickinson-Florham; men's basketball - Wisconsin-Whitewater; women’s ice hockey – Plattsburgh State; men’s ice hockey – St. Norbert; women’s swimming and diving – Emory; men’s swimming and diving – Kenyon; women's indoor track & field - Wisconsin-Oshkosh; men's indoor track & field - Wisconsin-La Crosse; and men’s wrestling – Wartburg.
