GEORGETOWN –- Over 400 pounds of food was
collected Friday night as the Southwestern University Athletic
Department hosted its third annual Shopping Cart Parade benefiting
The Caring Place.
The Southwestern campus was invited to vote for their favorite shopping cart "float" that included entries from fraternities, sororities, campus organizations and Pirate athletic teams. A combination of a judge's score for best float along with the total weight collected in food determined this year's winners.
Taking home first place honors and the first ever Champions Cart Cup – a new traveling trophy that was added to the festivities – was the Southwestern softball team. In a tight race the Southwestern Student Congress edged Alpha Delta Pi sorority for second place.
All the food raised was for the Caring Place food pantry in Georgetown.
