Trinity's Smith, Boboy, and Kennemer Named SCAC Football Players-of-the-Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Trinity University football team swept the SCAC Football Players of the Week award for week four as sophomore Stephen Smith, junior Tomy Boboy, and junior Matthew Kennemer earned the honor.

 

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, September 21

STEPHEN SMITH OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a 6-0, 183-pound sophomore quarterback from Northbrook, Illinois, has been named the SCAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 21. 

In his first career start, Smith led the Trinity football team to a 33-6 victory over the Sul Ross State Lobos on Saturday afternoon.Smith completed 17-31 for 273 yards and three touchdowns in the game, sparked by a 10-18 performance in the second half.  

He led the Tigers to back-to-back scoring drives in the third quarter to push the team to a 19-0 lead.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior wide receiver Mitch Trentman of Austin College had a career game for Austin College against Occidental, snagging four passes for 91 yards and a touchdown. Southwestern did not nominate anyone for the award, and Texas Lutheran was idle.

 

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, September 21

TOMY BOBOY OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a 6-0, 221-pound junior defensive lineman from Hurst, Texas has been selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 21.

Boboy led a Tiger defense that allowed just one scoring drive in a 33-6 victory over Sul Ross State University on Saturday afternoon.

Boboy had 1.5 tackles for loss and a 10-yard sack in the game, as well as blocking a punt for a safety and recording a pair of quarterback hurries for the Tigers.  His third-quarter sack backed Sul Ross inside their own 10 yard line, and two plays later, he broke through the line to block a punt through the back of the end zone.
That sequence turned the momentum of the game, and the Tigers went from a 3-0 halftime lead to a 19-0 advantage in the third quarter.  

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Austin College and Southwestern did not nominate anyone for the award, and Texas Lutheran was idle.

 

SCAC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, September 21

MATTHEW KENNEMER OF TRINITY, a 5-11, 185-pound sophomore wide receiver, kicker, punter, kick returner, and punt returner from Friendswood Texas., has been selected the SCAC Football Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 14.

Kennemer once again served as Trinity's returner on both punts and kickoffs, as well as connecting on 4-4 extra points and knocking through a 28-yard field goal in the first quarter. His field goal turned out to be the only points of the first half.

Kennemer averaged 38.5 yards/punt in the game, punting four times for 154 yards. He also led all receivers in the game with six catches for 101 yards and a touchdown.

Austin College and Southwestern did not nominate anyone for the award, and Texas Lutheran was idle.
