Trinity's Knoop and Ekanayake Named ITA Women's All-Americans

SAN ANTONIO, Texas- Trinity University Tigers Mackenzie Knoop and Thavindra Ekanayake have been named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Women's All-America Team.

Knoop (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque Academy), a rising junior, and Ekanayake (Colombo, Sri Lanka / Visakha Vidyalaya), a May Trinity graduate, won the ITA Regional Doubles Championship last fall at the Butch Newman Tennis Center. The duo advanced to the National Small College Championships after winning the regional title.

It marked the second time each player was accorded All-America status.

Head Coach Jacob McMindes, who completed his first season with the Tigers, led the team to its second consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship. Coach McMindes was elected SCAC Coach of the Year, and Ekanayake was named SCAC Player of the Year.

Trinity went on to make its second straight appearance in the NCAA Division III Playoffs, defeating Agnes Scott College in the opening round. It marked the Tigers first NCAA Tournament victory since the 2008 season. Emory beat Trinity in the second round of the tournament.
