LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Trinity bounced back after a heartbreaking loss and dominated Sul Ross St., 33-6, to improve to 2-1 on the season. The Tigers avenged a loss to the Lobos a year ago and ended a four year losing streak.

The Austin
College football team fell short in its comeback
attempt at Oc- cidental, falling 35-25 on Saturday night. The 'Roos
are now 0-3 on the year. Occidental jumped to a 35-12 lead late in
the third quarter, and the 'Roos would add a pair of touchdowns to
cut the lead to 10 but that is as close as things would get. Shane
Hodge had a 30 yard interception return for a score and Noah Jesko
found Kyle Crawford for a 44 yard touchdown for the final two
scores for Austin College. Jesko completed 26-of-48 passes for 307
yards with two touch- downs and an interception and Bryce Murphy
carried 13 times for 100 yards to lead the 'Roos offensively. Mitch
Trentman hauled in four passes for 91 yards and a score, and
Crawford had six catches for 81 yards and a score. Brooks Ward made
12 tackles, including 2.0 for loss and a sack, and also forced a
fumble to lead Austin College defensively. Hodge, Nathan Packard,
and Jantzen Foster all had interceptions.
The Southwestern University Pirates fell
behind early Saturday to East Texas Baptist and could not recover
as they fell 56-10 at Birkelbach Field. The Pirate defense again
stepped up recording three sacks and forcing two turnovers on the
night. However, ultimately it was a quick strike offense that saw
the Tigers post 50-plus points for the second straight week.
Dylan Wil- burn rushed for 60 yards on 13 carries while
Austin Rainer and Dante Smith split time at quarterback to throw
for over 150 yards and rush for 20 more including Smith's 8-yard
touchdown run in the third quarter. Before Smith's run the Pirates
got on the board with a 29-yard field goal from Laith Tucker early
in the second quarter. ETBU answered with their second longest
drive of the night – 7 plays in 60 yards spanning 1:41 and
was capped by a 1-yard Toi Glover dive. The score gave the Tigers a
28-3 halftime lead that accumulated with ETBU posting nearly
700-yards of total offense in the win.
The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs were idle this
weekend. They will return this Saturday for their home opener
against Southwestern Assemblies of God.
Trinity avenged last year's loss to Sul Ross
State University with a 33-6 home victory over the Lobos on
Saturday afternoon. The teams got off to a slow start with
just a 3-0 lead after the first two quarters, but the Tigers
exploded with 30 points to run away with the game in the second
half. Trinity scored 16 points in less than two minutes on the game
clock to pull away in the third quarter. Among the scoring
was a blocked punt out of the end zone for a safety by Tomy Boboy,
which was the first safety since 2011 for the Tiger defense, and
was the first blocked punt since 2001. Trinity returns to action
this weekend for a third consecutive home game, hosting SCAC
opponent Austin College in a non-conference tilt. The teams
meet again at the end of the season for a conference game.
The Tigers defeated the 'Roos 42-13 last season in San
Antonio, and Trinity has won 16 consecutive meetings between the
two teams. Trinity holds a 43-29-6 overall record in the
series.
