Trinity's Emodi, TLU's Lee Named SCAC Volleyball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Trinity's Maggie Emodi and Texas Lutheran's Megan Lee have been named SCAC Volleyball Players of the Week for Week 10 after a terrific performance in non-conference play to lead their teams.

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 28th – November 3rd

MAGGIE EMODI OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior outside hitter from Omaha, Neb., has been selected the SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 28th through Sunday, November 3rd.

Emodi led Trinity to a 2-2 record at the Emory Invitational last weekend, sweeping two teams before losing to a pair of top-10 opponents on the final day.

Emodi paced the Tigers with 60 total kills and 4.00 kills/set for the weekend of action, and even more impressively, recorded just 12 errors in 150 attacks for a staggering .320 hitting percentage in her 15 sets played.  She added 28 digs and nine blocks for the weekend as well. She earned All-Tournament Team honors from her outstanding performance.

In the tournament opener, Emodi had 12 kills and a .550 hitting percentage to defeat Cortland State, then had 16 kills and nine digs in the loss to #9 Juniata.  In the final match of the weekend, she posted 24 kills and a .328 hitting percentage against sixth-ranked Emory.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior outside hitter Shelby Eaves of Austin College had an average of 4.12 kills per set with a .250 hitting percentage and adding 2.62 digs per set. Eaves also had four total blocks and three service aces. Junior outside hitter and defensive specialist Brooke Bahlinger of Centenary College paced the Ladies with 23 kills on the weekend, including 19 in the win over LeTourneau to secure a double-double with 19 kills as well. The junior also dished out eight assists in the 11 sets this weekend. Freshman outside hitter Abbe Holtze of Colorado College hit a blistering .550 with 13 kills on 20 swings with only two errors during Friday's sweep of Johnson & Wales University. It marked the 15th time this season Holtze finished with double-digit kills. Sophomore middle blocker and right side hitter Cat Dowgwillo from University of Dallas had 40 kills, 144 total attacks, 26 digs, and a hitting percentage of .118 last weekend. Senior middle hitter Veronica Castillo of Schreiner had 20 kills, 9 errors, in 60 attempts (.183) with two 9 kill performances against ETBU and Howard Payne. Freshman setter Nikki Welch of Southwestern averaged 9.71 assists to set up a huge SU attacking core this weekend, dispersing to five hitters who averaged over two kills per set. Freshman outside hitter Brette Threadgill of Texas Lutheran finished with 51 total kills and averaged 3.92 kills per set. She notched no fewer than 15 kills in any match and hit .190 over the weekend. 

 

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 28th – November 3rd

MEGAN LEE OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior libero/defensive specialist from Universal City, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played Monday, October 28th through Sunday, November 3rd.

Lee provided the defensive consistency for the Bulldogs in their three-match sweep over ASC opponents this weekend. She finished with 66 digs and averaged 5.08 digs per set throughout the three matches. She also notched seven service aces to go along with her excellent defense.

Lee came into the weekend third in the country in digs per set and kept that pace up, tallying 17 in a sweep of Howard Payne on Friday before following that up with 50 combined digs in two matches against East Texas Baptist and Hardin-Simmons. Her best match came in the weekend finale against HSU where she tallied 26 total digs.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore defensive specialist Rachel Fusselman of Austin College totaled 63 digs for an average of 3.94 digs per set and had a team-best five service aces in four matches over the weekend. Junior outside hitter Sarah Sumner of Centenary College led the team with 37 digs this weekend en route to a double-double against LeTourneau with 28 digs and 12 kills. Freshman middle blocker Keli Sherwood of Colorado College set season highs with five block assists and six total blocks during Colorado College's sweep of Johnson & Wales University on Friday. Freshman outside hitter and defensive specialist Jessie Koster of Dallas had 116 digs with an average of 8.28 digs per game, and 3 aces on the weekend. Senior libero Jamie Burns of Schreiner had 31 digs with an average of 10.3 per game and 1 service ace on the weekend. Sophomore outside and right side hitter Macey Pool of Southwestern averaged 4.5 digs per set and led the Pirates with 63 digs on the weekend. She also added in five blocks, 35 kills and a team high five service aces. Junior middle blocker Erin Cusenbary of Trinity University finished with 17 total blocks (1.13/set) over the weekend, as well as 35 kills (2.33/set) and a .409 hitting percentage.  She also recorded four service aces and five digs for the Tigers.
