LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Headlined by First Team All-Region selection Taylor Yancey and Jennifer Gallagher of Texas Lutheran University, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) placed nine student-athletes on the 2016 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-West Region teams. TLU's Taylor Grissom, Nicole Snow and Heather Hummel joined Trinity University's Emily Fleischman on the second team. The third team consisted of TLU's Kaymee Gooden, Trinity's Rebecca Berreth and Southwestern University's Taylor Curtis.
Yancey, a senior first baseman from Magnolia, Texas, finished the year leading the SCAC in batting average (.476), hits (69), doubles (25), runs batted in (54) total bases (103) and OBP (.524). The SCAC Player-of-the-Year lands on the NFCA First Team for the first time of her career in addition to being named to the SCAC All-Tournament team.
Gallagher, a senior catcher from Missouri City, Texas, finished the year hitting .377 and was ranked second in the SCAC in RBI's (52) and doubles (16), she also scored 32 runs. Gallagher was a First Team All-SCAC selection and a All-Tournament team selection.
Grissom, a senior right-hander from Spring, Texas, was ranked second in the SCAC in ERA (1.50), was No. 3 in opposing batting average (.236), and led the league in wins (16). Grissom joins Erin Mulvey of Trinity (2005-2007) and Megan Soultz of DePauw (2008-2010) as the only pitchers in conference history to win SCAC Pitcher-of-the-Year three straight years. She was also named a first team Academic All-District selection by CoSIDA.
Snow, a junior utility player from Tomball, Texas, hit .391 with a .571 slugging percentage, scoring 34 runs and driving in 47. She posted 12 doubles, three triples and two home runs on the year and had an OBP of .459. She was named an All-SCAC first team selection in addition to an Academic All-District selection by CoSIDA.
Hummel, a senior third baseman from Houston, Texas, led the SCAC in slugging percentage (.734), home runs (9) and walks (25). She was also top five in OBP (.500), runs (49), total bases (91) and sac bunts (10). She was named to the All-SCAC first team in addition to an All-Tournament nod.
Fleischman, a senior outfielder from Bellevue, Wash., led the Tigers with 31 runs scored, and stole 13-13 bases. She collected 42 hits in the batter's box, while drawing a team-best 18 walks. She earned her fourth appearance on the All-SCAC team in addition to being named to this year's All-Sportsmanship team and All-Tournament team.
Gooden, a junior outfielder from Mart, Texas, made her presence felt immediately for the Bulldogs after a successful two-year stint at McLennan College. She finished the year batting .370 with five home runs (second in the SCAC), 34 runs scored and 43 runs batted in (fourth in the SCAC), and she is third in the league in stolen bases with 29. Gooden had one of the more prolific days in league history in earning Week 9 SCAC Player-of-the-Week honors. In a doubleheader sweep of Southwestern, she was a perfect 6-for-6 from the plate with two home runs and nine RBI. Since the program joined the SCAC prior to the 2014 season, Gooden is the first Texas Lutheran player to earn Newcomer-of-the-Year honors. Gooden's season accolades also include an All-Tournament selection and a first team All-Conference nod.
Berreth, a sophomore shortstop from Pearland, Texas, posted a team-best .370 (50-135) batting average at the plate this season for the Tigers. She powered a team-leading 29 RBI, 12 doubles, three triples, and a .570 slugging percentage. Berreth also led with 77 total bases, and was tied for the lead with three home runs. She finished the season in second place, behind Fleischman, with 30 runs scored. Berreth was an All-SCAC second team selection in addition to being named to this year's All-Tournament team.
Curtis, a sophomore outfielder from Bryan, Texas, led the SCAC in triples (5) and was top five in total bases (83) and slugging percentage (.619). She finished the year hitting .381 with 18 RBI's and 28 runs scored. She was also named to the All-SCAC first team.
