LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Texas Lutheran softball jumped one spot to No. 3 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25 for NCAA Division III.
The NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll is selected by Division III head coaches representing the eight NCAA regions.
The Bulldogs were 4-0 last weekend against conference-rival Centenary College. TLU outscored the Ladies 23-1 to continue their unbeaten streak in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play to 46 games.
TLU's bats are led by senior first baseman Taylor Yancey who posts a league-best .494 batting average and a .759 slugging percentage with a .522 OBP (2nd in the SCAC). Yancey hit .583, belted a two-run homer and drove in five total runs against Centenary.
The trio of junior Amanda Lochte, senior Taylor Grissom and junior Veny Pizana continue to be lights-out for the Bulldogs each posting top five ERA's and opposing batting averages in the SCAC. Grissom tossed a pair of complete-game shutouts against Centenary last weekend and holds a perfect 10-0 record on a 0.83 ERA. Pizana is 6-0, also with a 0.83 ERA on 23 strikeouts. Lochte is 8-1 with a 1.17 ERA on 42 strikeouts.
TLU's pitching staff is ranked fourth in the nation with a collective 1.09 ERA as of March 27th.
The Bulldogs will face Southwestern University this weekend.
