Centre Wins Fifth SCAC Women's Cross Country Championship

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Led by Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year Ashley El Rady's second place finish, the Centre College Colonels won the school's fifth SCAC women's cross country championship at the Sewanee Golf Course. Results

El Rady, who finished the 6K course in a time of 22:18.84, was one of seven Colonels who finished in the top 30. Joining her were Hannah Ellis (6th - 22:41.47), Bekah Rehkamp (7th - 22:42.02), Emily Akin (14th - 23:19.96), Paige Farris (21st - 23:55.81), Cristin Palmer (27th - 24:09.78) and Annie Wigginton (30th - 24:21.73).

With their top 14 tim es, El Rady, Ellis, Rehkamp and Akin earned All-SCAC honors.

Centre won its first SCAC championship since 1994. The Colonels, with a team score of 50, had to hold off hard charging Trinity University, which finished four points back of the Colonels in second place. The Tigers were led by SCAC Runner of the Year Maddie Murphy who finished in first place with a time of 22:07.90. Rounding out Trinity's all-conference performers were Rosemary Steup (4th - 22:24.78) and Michelle Oberndorf (5th - 22:37.05).

Rhodes finished in third place with 64 points. The Lynx placed Becca Olivarez (8th - 22:44.68), Maddie Harrigan (9th - 22:55.51) and Aubrey Schonhoff (13th - 23:09.22). Claire Coulter and Caroline Webster added top 20 finishes for Rhodes.

Colorado College placed two runners on the All-SCAC team in Devin Nadar and Maggie Harkins. Nadar finished third overall tallying a 22:23.00 while Harkins clocked in at 22:57.88, good enough for a 10th place finish. As a team, the Tigers finished in fourth place with 81 points.

Host school Sewanee: University of the South rounded out the top five as the Tigers finished fifth. Sewanee was followed by Southwestern University (6th), Millsaps College (7th), Birmingham-Southern College (8th), University of Dallas (9th), Hendrix College (10th) and Oglethorpe University (11th).

Jessica Thornton earned All-SCAC honors after she finished in 11th place by running a 23:00.92 race. Rounding out the All-SCAC performers was Southwestern's Lilly Duarte. Duarte finished in 12th tallying a 23:07.50.

After the race SCAC Director of Communications Russell Kramer caught up with the top three men's finishers as well as Centre head coach Lisa Owens.
