Rhodes & Centre Earn Bids to NCAA Women's Cross Country Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Rhodes College and Centre College earned bids to the 2011 NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championship meet next week. Rhodes earned an automatic bid via its regional finish while Centre earned an at-large bid to the championship.

Rhodes placed second in the South/Southeast regional yesterday in Seguin, Texas. Centre earned an at-large bid after narrowly finishing in third place (six points) to second place Rhodes.

Individually, Trinity placed a pair of student-athletes in the championship meet as Rosemary Steup and Maddie Murphy earned at-large bids based on their performances at the South/Southeast regional.

Thirty-two teams were selected to participate in each championship.  The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the eight regions, for a total of 16 teams. Sixteen additional teams were selected at-large.

Fifty-six individuals, the first seven athletes from each region who are not a part of a qualifying team, were selected to participate in each championship.

The NCAA Championship meet is Saturday, November 19 at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis. The women’s race will begin at noon ET followed by the men’s race at 1 p.m. ET.
