KAITLYN BARRETT OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a first year catcher/infielder from Franktown, Colo., has been named the SCAC Softball Hitter-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, April 17 through Sunday, April 23. SCAC Softball Release - Week 11
Barrett had a monster week at the plate for Austin College, batting .429 (6-for-14) with four home runs, eight RBI, and four runs scored in five games. She had a .529 on-base percentage and a 1.286 slugging percentage, and hit .500 with three homers and six RBI, boasting a 1.625 slugging percentage in three SCAC games.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior infielder Taci Tatum of Schreiner led the Mountaineers at the plate is a key series win over Centenary last weekend in a fight for SCAC Tournament standings. Tatum went 3-for-4 (.750) with three RBI and two runs scored. She also drew five walks to post an outstanding .889 on-base percentage. Senior shortstop Sam Martinez of Southwestern led the Pirates at the plate last weekend in a road sweep at Austin College. She hit .625, going 5-for-8 with three runs scored and two RBI. Martinez also finished with two stolen bases and drew three walks to post a .727 on-base percentage. First year catcher Adelyn Becerra of St. Thomas finished the weekend series at Texas Lutheran, going 3-for-8 (.375) with two runs scored, one RBI and one home run. First year utility player Serena Gonzalez of Texas Lutheran continued her stellar rookie season hitting .500 over the course of three games against St. Thomas. Gonzalez hit a homer and drove in four runs on the weekend. Gonzalez leads the SCAC with nine home runs (tying the TLU freshman record) and is second in RBI with 45 (most by a first year in TLU history). Sophomore catcher/third baseman Jessica Lloyd of Trinity led the Tigers to their first series sweep of the year, going 3-0 in SCAC play against Dallas. Lloyd batted .500 (4-for-8) over the weekend with two runs scored and five RBI. She went 2-for-3 with two doubles, along with two runs scored and four RBI in Trinity's 9-0 series finale win. This season, Lloyd is batting .318 (34-for-107) with 18 runs scored and 18 RBI and now has seven doubles on the year.
