CHLOE BENNETT OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a first-year catcher from Waller, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Hitter-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 13 through Sunday, March 19. SCAC Softball Release - Week 6

Bennett was outstanding at the plate last week for the Celts, hitting a blistering .625, including an even hotter .727 in the SCAC opening series on the road at Centenary. Last week in leading St. Thomas to a 4-1 record, including a 2-1 mark in league play, Bennett paced the SCAC with 10 hits, seven extra base hits, including three doubles, a triple and a home run and an impressive 1.313 slugging percentage. In the rubber match against Centenary, Bennett went a perfect 5-for-5 with a home run, a double, three runs scored and four RBI to lift St. Thomas to the series win. For the Week, Bennett finished with a .625 average (10-for-16), scored six runs, drove in seven, stole one base, produced three multi-hit games, posted an on-base percentage of .647 and a slugging mark of 1.313.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore middle infielder Chyrsi Hemby of Austin College had a big week as the 'Roos went 4-2, including 3-0 in conference play. It marks the second-straight year Austin College has opened the SCAC schedule with a perfect 3-0 record after not having previously accomplished that feat since 2009. Hemby batted .563 with a .600 on-base percentage, adding a .938 slugging percentage. She totaled nine hits, including three doubles and a home run, while scoring seven runs and driving in five more. Hemby also had a pair of stolen bases and drew three walks. Sophomore catcher Vivian Rivero of Centenary had a big day at the plate on Sunday against St. Thomas as she belted a pair of home runs and finished 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored and became the first Centenary player to hit two home runs in a game since All-American Anna Dunn did so against Dallas on April 14, 2018. Rivero hit a one-out solo homer to center in the third and went deep again to lead off the fifth. Rivero now has a team-leading three home runs this season. She had four hits, three runs scored, and three RBI in the Ladies' five games last week. Sophomore infielder Meghan McCarthy of Southwestern helped lift the Pirates to their first sweep over Trinity since 2019 last weekend, batting .667 in the series (4-for-6) with a double, a triple, three RBI and two runs scored.
